Who runs Asher College
Asher College was founded in Sacramento in 1998 and began teaching in January 1999. It opened a Las Vegas campus in 2010 and added Dallas in 2012. The legal operator is MDDV, Inc., a California corporation; the same owner co-owns IntelliTec College in Colorado and New Mexico, and the two schools share systems such as their online learning platform. Asher teaches 17 programs in three families, IT, medical and business, as certificates and AAS degrees, and the three campuses offer almost the same list. Every program is hybrid: coursework is online, but students must attend campus every week. Asher has no nursing or skilled-trades programs.

Lengths are full-time and come from Asher’s 2026 catalogs, which list the same 17 programs with the same hours at all three campuses; three-quarter-time and half-time schedules take longer (for example 62 and 92 weeks for the pharmacy technician certificate). Certification exams are optional, but Asher says it covers industry exam fees, and the medical billing program includes one exam. Pharmacy Technician is the only program with an externship; the catalog says Asher offers no other co-op or on-the-job training. Nevada AAS students take an extra Nevada Constitution course.
What the main programs cover
Pharmacy Technician
Pharmacy Technician carries ASHP/ACPE programmatic accreditation at all three campuses. Students learn on PioneerRx and Apothesoft-Rx pharmacy software and complete PHT311, a 130-hour externship off campus under a licensed pharmacist. Besides the general entrance assessment, applicants take the Wonderlic test (verbal 200, quantitative 140) and pass a background check and drug screen. Asher helps graduates apply for state licensure. Its Nevada disclosure (March 2025) says the background check, drug screen and exam fees are included but immunizations are not.
Medical Billing and Coding
The advanced courses are HS207 Advanced Billing and Reimbursement, HS310 Advanced Physicians Coding, HS311 Advanced Facility Coding and HS401 Electronic Health Records. It is aimed at five exams from two bodies: NHA’s CBCS, CMAA and CEHRS and AAPC’s CPC-A and CPB; Asher includes one exam in the price. There is no externship. The AAS adds general education, and Sacramento students can take that degree fully at a distance without weekly campus attendance.
Networking and computer support
The Computer and Network Technician track runs through courses PCS100, PCS110, PCS111, NET103, SEC102 and VMW101 and is aimed at CompTIA Tech+, A+, Network+ and Security+ and the stackable CompTIA CIOS and CSIS. Network and Computer Systems Administration goes further, adding Server+ and two advanced networking courses (CNC101 and CNC102) for Cisco’s CCNA; its program page mentions a weekly on-site PC Repair Clinic. PC Support Specialist is a 29-week certificate focused on CompTIA A+.
Cloud and computer security
Both security programs are 1,180-hour certificates with 76-week AAS versions, and both build on CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+ and Security+. Cloud and Computer Security Specialist then adds Amazon Web Services training for the AWS Cloud Practitioner and Solutions Architect exams. Computer Operations and Security Specialist adds Linux+ along with VMware and cloud fundamentals. These are entry-level, certification-based programs rather than security-analyst training. The catalog also mentions seminars for applicants who already have IT experience.
Office Accounting and Health Information
Office Accounting is mainly office administration: its accounting content is ACC100 Introduction to Accounting and ACC102 QuickBooks Pro, which prepares for the QuickBooks Certified User exam, alongside Microsoft Office Specialist training in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The Health Information AAS (marketed as “Health Information Specialist”) combines HIT101 Health Information Technology, HS208 billing and coding, HS401 electronic health records and PBS111 office administration with general education. It prepares for NHA’s CMAA, CEHRS and CBCS exams; it is not CAHIIM-accredited.
Cost: priced per program
Asher charges one price per program rather than per credit, with no in-state or out-of-state rates. Its program pages give no prices, and we could not read the tuition schedules in the 2026 catalogs, so the latest published figures are the total charges in Sacramento’s 2024 annual report to California’s Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE): $14,500 to $27,770 for certificates and $24,450 to $32,370 for AAS degrees (see the programs table). Ask the school for 2026-27 prices, and for Dallas and Las Vegas prices, which may differ. The registration fee is up to $100.
Asher takes federal student aid. In Sacramento’s 2024 BPPE report, 75% of students took federal loans and the three-year cohort default rate was reported as zero. California students can also use Cal Grants and WIOA workforce funding, and Asher accepts VA education benefits and vocational rehabilitation; the Sacramento campus reported $472,538 in VA aid for 2024. Niche lists an average net price of $16,928 a year. We found no named scholarships with published amounts.
Admissions and the weekly campus schedule
- A high school diploma, GED or accepted equivalent, and a meeting with an admissions advisor and a financial-aid representative (or the VA certifying official).
- The EduReady entrance assessment, with scores of 75 or more in English and math. A first fail can be retaken the next business day; after a second, applicants wait 30 days.
- Pharmacy Technician programs: the Wonderlic test, a background check and a drug screen as well.
- A laptop: Asher says Chromebooks and Macs do not work with its learning system.
Programs start monthly; the next starts are 19 October 2026 at Dallas and Las Vegas and 2 November 2026 at Sacramento. Study is online, but students must be on campus every week: at least 16 hours a week full-time, 12 hours at three-quarter time and 8 hours at half time, with attendance kept at 80% or more. Campuses open Monday to Saturday, and Dallas keeps resource hours into the evening Monday to Thursday.
Accreditation and results
ACCET, the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training, has accredited Asher since 2005 (per Asher’s site), and the 2026 catalogs give the current term as running to December 2028. The Pharmacy Technician certificate and Pharmacy Technology AAS are accredited by ASHP/ACPE at all three campuses. State approval comes from California’s BPPE, Nevada’s Commission on Postsecondary Education (licence to 30 September 2027) and the Texas Workforce Commission. Sacramento’s 2024 BPPE report lists no final disciplinary action by an accreditor.

Pharmacy technician results come from the PTCE (Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam) reports that Asher publishes for each campus. They rely on candidates reporting their program to PTCB, and they compare with a national average of 69%. Groups are small, so one or two candidates move the rate a lot.

Sacramento’s 2024 BPPE report counts on-time completion as graduating within the normal program length, and placement as working in the field within six months of graduating. Certificate cohorts in the same report had one to five students each, too few to compare. We found no published completion or placement rates for Dallas or Las Vegas. Federal data report fall enrollment of 649, nearly all part-time.
Before you enroll
- Hybrid means weekly campus time. Except for three AAS degrees at Sacramento, every program needs at least 8 to 16 hours on campus each week, and we found nothing showing that Asher enrolls students from other states online.
- Pharmacy technician exam results differ sharply by campus: 91% at Sacramento but 62% at Dallas and 38% at Las Vegas in reports running to November 2025, against a 69% national average.
- The Health Information AAS is not CAHIIM-accredited, so it does not lead to the RHIT credential; it prepares for NHA medical office, records and billing exams.
- Office Accounting is bookkeeping and office software training, with one introductory accounting course and QuickBooks; it is not an accounting degree.
- Only Pharmacy Technician includes an externship, and we found completion and placement rates only for Sacramento. Ask Dallas or Las Vegas for their own figures.

All three campuses teach essentially the same programs. PC Support Specialist is confirmed at Las Vegas and Sacramento; the Dallas catalog lists it but the Dallas campus page does not. Only Sacramento offers fully distance study, for three AAS degrees.
Career courses and employer links
Asher has no student housing. Every program includes two required career courses, CD101 Career Success and CD201 Advanced Career Development. Asher names employers that have hired its graduates, including Robert Half Technology, CVS, Sutter Health and the State of California in Sacramento and CompuCom, Ericsson and Fujitsu in Dallas, and says Las Vegas has an employer advisory board. Asher says Dallas was a Gold Military Friendly school for 2024–25 and Las Vegas a Top Ten school in 2024.
What students say
Only one Asher campus has enough reviews to summarize: Niche’s Sacramento page scores it 3.85 out of 5 from 26 reviews (checked 10 October 2026). Reviewers praise one-on-one help from patient staff, flexible evening and weekend hours, and IT programs that line up with jobs. Complaints are that the self-directed video-and-book model leaves new students lost at first, that business students get little internship and career support, and that some instructors play favorites. With 26 reviews from one campus, treat this as a small sample; we found no Dallas or Las Vegas page with 25 or more reviews, and Trustpilot has none.
