Four Walls Career And Technical Education Center

What Is It Known For?

Edward Pinkard, the Executive Director, saw a gap in the District of Columbia as skilled workers were hard to find, and many residents needed better access to quality training.

The team behind Four Walls Career and Technical Education Center had already spent years running trade-focused programs for at-risk populations and adults needing immediate support. After that experience, they decided to narrow their focus on adult education programs that could help unemployed and underemployed DC residents build basic literacy, employability skills, and technical training.

The institution’s focus is to give District residents a path toward self-sufficiency and a better quality of life through practical education. For current enrollment numbers, you’ll need to contact the school directly.

Degrees & Certifications

Students at Four Walls CTEC can earn certificates in various trades, or work toward completing a high school diploma.

Training options include:

  • Electrical Wiring
  • Stationary Steam Engineering
  • Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), and more.

Through contextual learning, students build workplace literacy alongside technical abilities and entrepreneurial skills.

Class Schedules

All instruction at Four Walls CTEC happens on-site between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Day classes run Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Evening sessions fill the 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. slot on those same days.

Four Walls has adapted to include online and hybrid formats. Zoom, Google Classroom, and teleconferences now supplement traditional classroom learning. Students can also participate in internships, apprenticeships, mentorships, and job-shadowing. The center does not offer clinical externships since the programs focus on trades rather than healthcare fields.

Is It a Good School?

Yes. The District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) oversees Four Walls CTEC as one of its initiatives. The Higher Education Licensure Commission (HELC) has also approved the center to operate, though its overall institutional accreditation status is not publicly detailed.

Acceptance Rate

Four Walls has not published acceptance rate data. Reach out to the institution for specific admission requirements.

How Much Does Tuition Cost?

The best part about Four Walls Career and Technical Education Center is that you pay nothing. A grant from the District of Columbia’s Office of State Superintendent of Education covers student tuition. Because there are no tuition costs, the school does not maintain a net price calculator.
