A one-campus nurse aide school in Aiea
Healthcare School of Hawaii is a private training school with one campus in Aiea, in the Honolulu area. It says it has been training students since 2001. Most of what it teaches leads to work as a certified nurse aide (CNA): a state-certified Nursing Assistant course, a longer Acute Care Nursing Assistant course with clinicals at one of two hospitals, and a recertification course for working CNAs. It is also an authorized American Heart Association provider of CPR, BLS and first aid courses. The school is open: its course schedule, updated 9 Sep 2026, lists Nursing Assistant classes running through 27 Nov 2026. It offers no degrees, and none of its courses carries academic credit.

What the main courses cover
Nursing Assistant
This is the school’s core course and the one Hawaii’s Med-QUEST Division certifies as a nurse aide training program. It runs 112 hours: 88 hours of classroom or online study and 24 hours of clinical practice at a nursing home the school arranges. Students choose an in-person class of about 10 days, held 8 am to 12 pm, or a hybrid version with about 14 days of self-paced online work plus 5 skills days, mornings 8 am to 12 pm or evenings 5 to 9 pm. Completers can take the Hawaii Prometric nurse aide exam.
Acute Care Nursing Assistant
This hybrid course prepares students for the same Hawaii Prometric nurse aide exam, but its clinical hours are in a hospital. The 32 clinical hours are spent at Adventist Health Castle Medical Center or The Queen’s Medical Center, on medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric and orthopedic units. The school’s pages give different totals for the course hours, so confirm them before you sign up. On top of the standard entry requirements, students need a criminal background check and immunizations or titers, including COVID-19, MMR, varicella, hepatitis B, Tdap, flu and TB.
CNA Recertification
The 24-hour competency evaluation, 6 hours of classroom work and 18 hours of skills evaluation, is for working CNAs renewing their Hawaii certificate, which lasts two years. The classroom version is temporarily suspended and the school offers distance learning instead. Applicants need a current CNA certificate, employer-verified recent paid work as a CNA, and photo ID, and must apply no more than 30 days before their certificate expires. The school’s pages disagree on how many recent work hours are needed (8 or 12), so check.
CPR, BLS and first aid
The school is an authorized American Heart Association provider. It offers the BLS Provider course, about 4 hours for a first card and about 3 hours for a renewal, or a 1 to 2 hour HeartCode skills check after the online part. Heartsaver CPR AED and First Aid classes run 2 to 4 hours. All lead to an AHA card valid for two years. The schedule showed one BLS session and one Heartsaver session on 20 Sep 2026.
Phlebotomy Technician
The course schedule describes phlebotomy as a 6-week online and hybrid course with 5 in-person days of clinical skills training and verification. Applicants must be 18 with a high school diploma or GED and need a physical, a two-step TB test and a hepatitis B titer. The school does not say how many hours the course has, whether it includes an externship, how many blood draws students complete or which certification exam it prepares for, and no start dates are posted.

Each course has one flat price; there are no residency tiers. These are the prices posted on the school’s course pages, which do not say when they took effect, so confirm the current price before you register. Per the Nursing Assistant course page, online registration requires full card payment, and other packages are mentioned but not priced.

Acute Care students pay for their own physical exam, immunizations or titers and background check. The school does not mention federal student aid, the GI Bill or VA benefits. Its financial aid page names community organizations it says it works with, such as Alu Like, the Native Hawaiian Scholarship Program of Mauli Ola Malamalama and Parent and Children Together (PACT), but gives no amounts or eligibility rules.
Who can enroll and when classes run
Nursing Assistant applicants must be 18 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, read, write and speak English, have no criminal record, show photo ID, and bring a physical exam and two-step TB clearance from the past year. The 2026 schedule lists Nursing Assistant cohorts from August through November, with the last ending 27 Nov 2026. No 2027 dates were posted when we checked.
State certification, not accreditation
The school is not accredited by an accreditor recognized by the US Department of Education. Its nurse aide training program is certified by the Hawaii Department of Human Services, Med-QUEST Division, from 29 Nov 2005 to 29 Nov 2027, per the state’s list of certified nurse aide training programs dated 14 Jul 2026, which also lists it for CNA recertification. Completers of the certified course are eligible for the Hawaii Prometric nurse aide exam. The school publishes no completion, exam pass, job placement or enrollment figures.
Before you enroll
- The school mentions no federal student aid, so plan to pay out of pocket or through one of the community funders it names.
- None of the courses carries academic credit, and the school has no institutional accreditation, so do not expect the hours to count toward a college nursing program.
- The school’s own pages disagree on some details, including the Acute Care course hours and the recertification work-hour rule, and they list two different email addresses. Confirm details in writing.
- Phlebotomy has no published hours, price, exam or start dates, and the Acute Care course shows only a tentative start with no date; ask before you plan around either.
- Online and hybrid students still need to attend skills days in Aiea, so the courses only suit students who can get to Aiea.
