What Is It Known For?
Indiana Tech is a private nonprofit university that traces its roots back to 1930, when educator John A. Kalbfleisch founded Indiana Technical College. His vision was to create an accelerated engineering program that would prepare students for the workforce during the Great Depression. Classes began in 1931 with 179 students in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
After Kalbfleisch’s passing in 1936, Archie T. Keene took the helm, guiding the college through growth, expansion of programs, and improvements in facilities. By 1963, the school officially became Indiana Institute of Technology, and over the decades, it broadened its offerings beyond engineering to include business, computer science, and professional studies. Today, Indiana Tech continues its career-focused mission, offering programs in engineering, business, computer science, criminal justice, and more. Its undergraduate enrollment is about 1,441 for fall 2024.
