Lewiston Regional Technical Center (LRTC) serves high-school students only; adults cannot enroll. Run by Lewiston Public Schools, it teaches career programs such as automotive technology, electricity, EMT and cosmetology to students from six sending high schools and home-schoolers, at Lewiston High School and, since 2023, at a second site in Edward Little High School in Auburn. Those students pay no tuition, though some programs have small costs. Adults train through Lewiston Adult Education, the district’s adult program, and the rest of this page covers its courses.

Lewiston Adult Education: the district’s adult courses
Lewiston Adult Education is the adult program of Lewiston Public Schools, based at the Gov. Longley Campus on Birch Street. It runs a short list of job-training courses that appear on Maine JobLink’s eligible training provider list, each with a listed price and no financial aid of its own. The main courses prepare students for the State of Maine CNA exam, the NHA national phlebotomy exam, or OSHA-10 Construction plus forklift and scissor lift certification. Some classes meet at Lewiston Regional Technical Center, which the district also runs, but adult students register with Lewiston Adult Education, not with the technical center. None of the courses leads to a degree.

JobLink also lists Foundations of Healthcare ($200), Healthcare Pathway Module 2 ($750) and Today’s Teller Academy ($2,000), with few details on their content or schedule.
What the main programs cover
Certified Nursing Assistant
The CNA course runs 180 hours in person, with day and evening sections, and prepares adults for the State of Maine CNA exam; students who pass are entered on the Maine CNA registry. CPR certification is also required. The fee covers the exam and supplies as well as tuition. Adults who are in a pre-apprenticeship can instead take Healthcare Pathway Module 3, a 14-week, 140-hour version with theory, lab and clinical hours on Monday to Wednesday daytimes at 145 Birch St. The listing does not say where the main CNA course meets.
Phlebotomy
Phlebotomy is a 150-hour daytime course over 10 weeks, taught at Lewiston Regional Technical Center, 156 East Ave, in the Lewiston High School building. It prepares students for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) phlebotomy certification exam, a national certification rather than a Maine state credential. Textbooks, the exam fee and supplies are included in the course fee. The course’s JobLink record was last updated in April 2025, so ask whether the dates and hours still match before you register.
Trades Academy
The Trades Academy is a 12-week, 264-hour daytime course for adults heading into construction work. Its listing includes a 60-hour WorkReady job-readiness module, 125 hours of construction skills and a possible 8-week work experience. Classroom sessions meet at 145 Birch St, and the hands-on skill building takes place at Lewiston Regional Technical Center. Students leave with OSHA-10 Construction (through SafetyWorks), forklift and scissor lift certification and a certificate of completion; the course may lead to an apprenticeship. No refunds are given after week 2.
Construction Training Program
The Construction Training Program is listed at 165 hours, including 60 hours of WorkReady job-readiness training and 90 hours of construction training, over 11 or 12 weeks (the listing gives both), with day and evening options at 156 East Ave. Its curriculum follows NCCER standards, though no NCCER credential is named, and it ends with OSHA-10 Construction and EPA RRP (lead-safe renovation) certification. Its JobLink record was last updated in January 2023, and we could not confirm that it still runs alongside the Trades Academy.
Cost: no tuition for high-school students, listed prices for adults
LRTC charges no tuition to students from its sending high schools; the center is state-funded through Maine’s CTE allocation, though some programs have small costs, such as culinary uniforms. Adults pay the price Maine JobLink lists for each Lewiston Adult Education course: the CNA course, for example, is $1,195 in all, made up of $975 tuition, a $145 exam fee and $75 for supplies. JobLink says no financial aid is offered, and we found no federal student aid (FAFSA or Pell) listed. Adults can ask the local CareerCenter about WIOA training funds, or about funding through EMDC, which may cover the cost.
Registration and schedules
Adults register with Lewiston Adult Education (207-784-2928), not with LRTC. The CNA course has day and evening sections, phlebotomy and the Trades Academy run in the daytime, and the Construction Training Program lists day and evening options. Start dates were not available to us, because the Fall 2026 brochure could not be read, so check the current schedule with the school.
Accreditation and results
LRTC is accredited by NEASC’s Commission on Public Schools as a public high school (grades 9-12), first in 1981, with its last visit in 2022 and no sanction shown. That accreditation covers the high-school center, not the adult courses; we found no accreditation for Lewiston Adult Education. Neither LRTC nor Lewiston Adult Education publishes completion, job placement or exam pass rates that we could find.
Before you enroll
- LRTC’s own programs, including automotive, electricity, plumbing, welding, EMT, firefighting and cosmetology, are for high-school students only. Adults can take only Lewiston Adult Education’s courses.
- The Trades Academy and Construction Training Program end with safety and equipment cards (OSHA-10, forklift, scissor lift, EPA RRP), not a trade licence.
- Phlebotomy leads to the NHA’s national certification exam, not a Maine state credential.
- There is no federal financial aid, and the Trades Academy gives no refunds after week 2. Ask about WIOA or CareerCenter funding before you pay.
- Course details come from Maine JobLink listings, some of them dated (the Construction Training Program record is from January 2023). Confirm that a course is running before planning around it.
