Bob Hogue School of Real Estate is now Kaplan Real Estate Education
Bob Hogue School of Real Estate has taught Florida real estate licence courses since 1978 and says it has served more than 300,000 students. Kaplan bought the school in 2020, and it now trades as Kaplan Real Estate Education; Kaplan’s Florida pages carry the line “formerly Bob Hogue School of Real Estate”, and the old Bob Hogue websites redirect to kapre.com. The state school permit is in Kaplan’s name.
The school sells Florida’s required real estate courses, from the 63-hour sales associate course through broker licensing, post-licensing and renewal hours, plus a 120-hour home-inspector course and a community association manager course. Most are self-paced online. Live-online classes exist for several courses, and in-person classes are sold, but Kaplan does not publish where or when they meet. The 63-hour sales course is also offered online in Spanish.

Kaplan also sells professional-development courses that carry no continuing-education credit, such as Real Estate Accelerator ($399), Buyer Agency Professional ($199) and Business Brokerage Training ($499).
What the main programs cover
Sales associate pre-licensing
The 63-hour course (sold online as Florida Real Estate Principles, Practices & Law) is required before the sales associate exam, and it ends with a course final. For the licence, Florida requires applicants to be 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED, to submit electronic fingerprints and to pass the state exam. The online and in-person classes are both sold with exam prep. Under the Kaplan Commitment, a student who completes the program and does not pass gets continued study support at no cost for up to 18 months. Course access lasts six months from purchase.
Broker pre-licensing
The 72-hour broker course is for sales associates moving up: Florida requires 24 months as an active sales associate within the past five years before the broker licence. Kaplan offers it two ways, as a live online class or as the self-paced Florida Real Estate Broker’s Guide online course. Exam prep for the broker exam is sold separately, as a live online learning hub or an online video course.
Post-licensing and continuing education
Florida requires 45 hours of post-licensing education for new sales associates and 60 for new brokers. Kaplan’s broker post-licensing is two 30-hour online courses, Essentials of Real Estate Investment and Real Estate Brokerage: A Management Guide. After that, licensees renew with 14 hours of continuing education: 3 hours of core law, 3 of ethics and 8 of specialty topics, in sales and broker versions. Single 3-hour core law and ethics modules and a 2-hour fair housing course are also sold.
Community association manager
The Community Association Manager Licensing class is taught live online only, with exam prep, and carries 16 credit hours; a separate question bank is sold too. Kaplan says Florida requires a state-approved 16-hour course and describes the state exam as 100 questions with a 75% pass mark, given by Pearson VUE. We could not check the required hours against Florida’s own rule, so confirm them with the state before enrolling.
Home inspection
Principles of Home Inspection: Systems & Standards is a 120-hour online course, with a home study format also mentioned on Kaplan’s Florida home-inspection page. The product page lists 11 hours of video, interactive exercises, progress quizzes, final exams and diagrams. Florida requires the full 120 hours before a candidate can sit the state exam. Kaplan says Florida’s exam has 120 questions with an 80% pass mark, and licensing also needs $300,000 of general liability insurance, which the student arranges.
Cost and paying for it
Listed prices run from $14.95 for a single 3-hour continuing-education module to $799 for the in-person Career Launcher package or the home-inspector course. The core licence routes cost $249 to $459 for sales associate pre-licensing and $349 or $449 for broker pre-licensing (October 2026).
As a licence school rather than a college, it offers no federal student aid. The only monthly-payment option we found is the Florida Exam Prep Package, an exam-prep subscription at $89 a month that Kaplan says you can cancel at any time. Kaplan does not list the state’s licensing fees on its Florida requirements page, so check them with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
Admissions and schedule
Florida’s own requirements apply at the licence stage: age 18 or older, a high school diploma or GED, fingerprints and the state exam for sales associates, and 24 months of active sales experience within five years for the broker licence.
No class timetable is published, and online course access lasts six months from purchase. On its continuing-education page Kaplan says that if a live classroom option is not shown, it is “working to add more course dates”. Licensing and outcomes
The school holds Florida DBPR real estate school permit ZH41345 in the name Kaplan Real Estate Education, current and active and due to expire on 30 September 2027. At the same St. Petersburg address Kaplan also holds a home-inspection continuing-education provider licence (PVD112) and a real estate appraisal course provider licence (PVDR28). Florida real estate schools are permitted by the state rather than accredited, and the school takes part in no federal aid programs. Kaplan publishes no exam pass rates for its Florida courses.
Before you enroll
- In-person classes are sold, but no location or dates are published. Confirm where and when a class meets before buying an in-person package rather than an online one.
- Only the 63-hour sales associate course is offered in Spanish. Broker pre-licensing, post-licensing and continuing education are listed in English only.
- Online course access runs for six months from purchase, so plan to finish within that time.
- The $89 Florida Exam Prep Package is a monthly recurring charge until you cancel it.
- The home-inspector course’s product page does not mention instructor access, and Florida licensing also requires $300,000 of liability insurance.

The reviews cover Kaplan’s real estate courses in every state, not only Florida. Reviewers most often praise clear study materials, helpful and knowledgeable support staff and an easy-to-use platform. Complaints are that some videos and portals are confusing and tedious, that exam questions dwell on minor details, and that some formats do not suit every learner. Kaplan invites customers to review it and replies to most negative reviews, so the score probably leans positive.
