A nonprofit career college in four states
Bryant & Stratton College is a private nonprofit career college. It has its main campus in Buffalo, 15 more campuses in New York, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin, and an online division, and reported about 17,000 students in November 2025. Almost everything it teaches is a career diploma or degree in health care, business, legal services or technology, and nursing is taught at 13 of the 16 campuses.
The founding family’s for-profit company gave the college to the Prentice Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, and in October 2020 the New York Board of Regents approved the move of its degree-granting authority to the nonprofit. The former owner kept two campus buildings and leased them to the college at market rates, Inside Higher Ed reported in December 2020. MSCHE lists it as nonprofit; some sites that republish federal data still label it for-profit.
Campus names, moves and closures
Several campuses carry a market name rather than their town’s: Amherst is in Getzville, Southtowns in Orchard Park, the Henrietta and Greece campuses (named for their towns) have Rochester addresses, Syracuse North is in Liverpool, Racine is in Mount Pleasant, and the Richmond campus is in North Chesterfield.
The Richmond campus moved in 2026 from Hull Street Road, where it had been for more than 30 years, to a 53,000-square-foot building at 101 Gateway Centre Parkway in North Chesterfield. It opened on 29 April 2026 and held its first term there from 6 May. The college closed its Glendale, Wisconsin campus at Bayshore Town Center on 31 August 2024, and had earlier closed campuses in downtown Cleveland and Eastlake, Ohio, and downtown Milwaukee. We found no announced new campuses.

Most associate degrees include an internship course of at least 60 hours at a host site. Campus programs run on semesters, while online courses run in 7.5-week sessions with no set class times. The online division teaches 16 associate degrees, nine bachelor’s degrees and 12 diplomas, including Digital Marketing, Organizational Management and Human & Social Services. Parma also lists an AAS in Electronic Technology and a BS in Electronic Engineering Technology.
What the main programs cover
Registered nursing: ADN and pre-licensure BSN
Both nursing routes are campus-based and end with the NCLEX-RN. Applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum TEAS proficiency score, then an interview with the nursing program director, a physical exam with lab work, a background check and a drug screen. The Racine campus says students do not have to petition or sit on a wait list to start nursing. In New York the ADN runs only at Greece, in a shorter 64-credit version; elsewhere it is 72 credits. Richmond’s new building has five nursing simulation rooms.
Practical nursing
Practical nursing is 41 credits over about 12 months and prepares students for the NCLEX-PN. Outside New York it is a diploma taught at the three Ohio, three Virginia and two Wisconsin campuses; in New York it is a certificate taught only at Henrietta. The school’s licensure disclosure says the diploma meets licensing requirements in Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Illinois, and the certificate in New York only. Admission follows the same steps as the RN programs, including the TEAS and background check.
Physical therapist assistant
The PTA degree is 71 credits over five semesters. Courses including PTAP225 and PTAP260 lead into two full-time clinical internships of about 7.5 weeks each (PTAP270 and PTAP271), after which graduates sit the national PTA licensing exam (NPTE-PTA). The program is taught on campus only, at Southtowns and Syracuse in New York, Parma in Ohio and Wauwatosa in Wisconsin, and each campus publishes its own CAPTE outcome figures, shown under accreditation below.
Occupational therapy assistant
The OTA degree is 73 credits over about 20 months. It includes Level I fieldwork and two eight-week Level II fieldwork placements, followed by the NBCOT exam for certified occupational therapy assistants. Syracuse teaches it in person. The hybrid version, run from Wauwatosa, puts lectures online and brings students to a lab one weekend a month; ACOTE approved a change in its lab location in December 2025. The school’s OTA graduation-rate page gives no figures yet, saying the numbers “have not stabilized”.
Medical assisting
Medical Assisting is the one program taught at all 16 campuses, and only on campus. The 62-credit associate degree ends with an internship course (AHLT270) and prepares graduates for one of three national exams: the AAMA’s CMA, NHA’s CCMA or AMT’s RMA. CAAHEP accredits the degree, on MAERB’s recommendation, at every campus except Albany; Albany and Richmond also teach a Medical Assisting Diploma. DataUSA’s federal figures show medical assisting as the most common award at the Buffalo campus (43 of 218 awards in 2024 data).
Cost and paying for it
Bryant & Stratton charges the same tuition at every campus and online. Full time means 12 to 18 credits a semester for day students and 13 to 18 for evening and online students.

At these rates, tuition alone comes to about $20,460 for a two-semester diploma, $40,920 for a four-semester associate degree, $51,900 for a five-semester ADN, PTA or OTA degree and $83,040 for an eight-semester bachelor’s (our arithmetic; credit loads vary). Fees for 2026-27 include $35 registration in the first term, $65 a semester for technology, $100 for graduation, a $500 nursing resource fee on selected courses, a $500 OTA toolkit, a $150 “OTA/PTA hybrid” acceptance fee, $90 a semester for transportation at Buffalo, $200 a semester for the Wauwatosa facility and course material fees of $42 to $500 per course.
The college takes Pell Grants (up to $7,395 for 2026-27), FSEOG grants of $100 to $4,000, Federal Work-Study, Direct Loans and PLUS loans, plus New York’s TAP grant ($500 to $5,665 a year) and the Ohio College Opportunity Grant ($1,250 to $5,000 a year). It accepts the GI Bill and military tuition assistance. Federal net price figures republished by DataUSA (2024 data) and Niche range from about $10,010 a year (Syracuse) to $15,116 (online).
Admissions and schedule
There is no application fee, admission is rolling with no waitlist, and programs start every 8 to 16 weeks; in October 2026 the next online start was 4 November 2026 and the next campus start 13 January 2027. Campus classes run by day and evening, some programs are blended, and online courses are asynchronous. Nursing applicants need a minimum TEAS score, a director interview, a physical, a background check and a drug screen, and RN-to-BSN students need an active RN license.
Accreditation and outcomes
The Middle States Commission on Higher Education has accredited Bryant & Stratton since 2002 and reaffirmed its accreditation on 25 June 2026, after site visits in March; the next self-study is due in 2033-34, and the college is under no warning or probation. MSCHE has asked for routine supplemental reports, including on the ACOTE action (January 2024) and the CAPTE action (July 2025). Programs are registered with the New York State Education Department and approved by SCHEV in Virginia and the nursing boards of all four states, and online students are covered through NC-SARA.
Program accreditors are ACEN for the ADN and most practical nursing programs (Virginia Beach and Henrietta are candidates), CCNE for the RN to BSN, the BS Nursing Generalist and the New York BSN at Syracuse North, CAAHEP for medical assisting at 15 campuses, CAPTE for PTA at four campuses and ACOTE for OTA at Syracuse and Wauwatosa.
Accreditor actions on the therapy programs
- OTA: ACOTE placed Solon’s OTA program on probation in December 2023; it became inactive in April 2025, as Greece’s had in December 2024, and ACOTE lists both as “Accreditation Withdrawn-Voluntary” from August 2025. The website still names Greece and Solon for OTA.
- PTA: In April 2025 CAPTE gave the Syracuse and Wauwatosa programs a warning with a compliance report and lifted both warnings that fall. In April 2026 it continued Southtowns’ accreditation with a compliance report due in 12 months.
Published results
The PTA figures below are two-year rates for the 2024 and 2025 cohorts, from the school’s CAPTE disclosure page; cohorts are small and the 2025 figures are not final. Syracuse’s 60% ultimate pass rate is below CAPTE’s 85% threshold.

Nursing pass rates could be checked only in part. Wisconsin’s 2024 state report shows pass rates of 93.27% for the ADN (97 of 104), 95.65% for the BSN (44 of 46) and 85.88% for practical nursing (73 of 85). The school says Virginia Beach’s 2024 ADN graduates passed at 97.67%, which we could not confirm with the Virginia board. The Ohio board’s 2024 and 2025 reports do not list any Bryant & Stratton program below its benchmark, but give no rates we could read. Rates for the New York programs, Hampton and Richmond, medical assisting and OTA are in school documents we could not open, so we could not verify them.
Federal graduation rates, republished by secondary sites rather than read from College Navigator, range from 19% to 40%: 21.2% at Buffalo (DataUSA, 2024 data), 19% at Parma, 40% at Syracuse and 23% for the online unit (Niche, October 2026).
Before you enroll
- ACOTE accredits two OTA programs: in person at Syracuse and the hybrid program run from Wauwatosa. The website also names Greece, Solon, Parma and Virginia Beach for OTA, and Greece’s and Solon’s accreditation was withdrawn in August 2025, so ask which accredited program and lab site you would join.
- Nursing licensure is state-specific. The school says its ADN meets licensing requirements in Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, New York, North Carolina and Illinois; New York’s BS in Nursing and PN certificate meet them in New York only. In other states it has not determined whether they do.
- The Paralegal Studies degree is not shown as ABA-approved; the program page mentions ABA membership, not approval.
- A four-semester associate degree costs about $40,920 in tuition at 2026-27 rates, and graduation rates on secondary sites run from 19% to 40% by campus. Ask how credits transfer before you enroll: credits that do not transfer are a recurring complaint in reviews.
- The school says the RN to BSN is available online in every state except New York and California; New York residents can take an RN to BS version instead.
Dorms, athletics and internships
Syracuse and Wauwatosa are the two campuses with student housing: Syracuse lists a dorm at $2,900 a term plus a food plan at $2,900 a term (the same page also gives $4,000 a term combined, so confirm), and Wauwatosa charges a $500 non-refundable housing fee with meal plans of $750 to $1,350 a term. Wauwatosa fields NJCAA teams and Syracuse a USCAA soccer program. Internships of at least 60 hours at a host site are built into most associate degrees, and campuses such as Richmond have career centers.
What students say
Niche’s page for Bryant & Stratton College – Online shows 4.6 out of 5 from 458 reviews (checked 5 October 2026), although Niche’s own overall grade for the unit is D-. Niche’s Parma page shows 3.57 from 176 reviews and its Syracuse page 4.25 from 102.
- Praise: caring, reachable faculty and advisors; a flexible online format that fits around work; small classes and a “family” feel.
- Complaints: diplomas or transcripts withheld over disputed balances; cost compared with community college; uneven teaching in some nursing and coding courses; mixed communication about financial aid; credits that do not transfer.
Treat the Niche online score with caution. GradReports, which covers the whole college, shows 3.0 out of 5 from 145 reviews, with 41% of reviewers recommending the school. A gap that wide may mean that reviews on some platforms were invited; we could not check when or how they were collected.
