A Kansas community college with two technical campuses
Coffeyville Community College (CCC) was established in 1923 and is a public two-year college in Kansas. Its main campus in Coffeyville teaches the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science transfer degrees and houses the residence halls and athletics. Almost all of its career training happens at two technical campuses: one across town in Coffeyville, which teaches nursing, emergency medical services, CDL and most trades, and one in Columbus, which teaches collision repair, powersports, automotive, construction and welding.
The college had 1,466 students in fall 2024 and 1,885 over the 2023-24 year. Fall 2025 headcount rose 11.4%, the largest increase of any Kansas community college.
Fall 2026 headcount fell 1.9%, per the college’s fall 2026 enrollment release.
Technical programs and where they are taught
Most technical programs are nine-month certificates whose hours also count toward an Associate of Applied Science. The table shows the main career programs.

Several programs carry their own accreditation or approval: CAAHEP for Paramedic (on the recommendation of CoAEMSP) and Medical Assisting (on the recommendation of MAERB), the ASE Education Foundation for Collision & Refinishing in Columbus through May 2031, and Kansas State Board of Nursing approval for both nursing programs, as listed on the college’s accreditation page. The nursing programs are not ACEN-accredited. Powersports Technology began in Columbus in late 2025 and became a full-time, nine-month certificate for fall 2026.
The Information Systems Technology program is listed as inactive, and the lineman training on the Coffeyville Technical Campus is a Pratt Community College program, not a CCC credential. The Fire Science degree follows the IFSTA curriculum, but its page names no Firefighter I or II certification.
What the main programs cover
Practical Nursing and the Associate Degree Nurse year
Nursing is a two-year ladder at the Coffeyville Technical Campus with a single August start. Year one is Practical Nursing: applicants need an active CNA certificate and must take the HESI A2 pre-admission exam ($65), and applications run from January to early May. Year two, the Associate Degree Nurse program, admits only students with a Kansas or Kansas-recognised multistate PN licence, or a Kansas paramedic licence. Graduates of each year sit the matching NCLEX exam. Students also pay for a background check and fingerprinting, $57 in Kansas.
EMT and Paramedic
Emergency medical training is one two-year program: the first semester is EMT, leading to Kansas EMT certification, and the rest builds to the 42-credit Paramedic Certificate B and the National Registry exam. Admission to paramedic study is selective. Kansas high-school students can take the EMT semester tuition-free. Only the full paramedic program is eligible for federal aid; EMT taken on its own is not. Training is based at the college’s emergency services building at 1909 W. 4th St. in Coffeyville.
Welding Technology
Welding is taught at both technical campuses, full-time over nine months or part-time over 18 months, and leads to a certificate or an associate degree. Students work in all four main processes, GTAW (TIG), SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (flux-core), and test for 6G pipe welding certificates in each. OSHA general industry and construction safety cards are part of the program. Welding is charged at its own higher per-credit rate, $160 for Kansans in 2026-27, plus the $500 shop fee each semester.
Automotive Collision & Refinishing
Collision repair is taught only at the Columbus Technical Campus over nine months, using I-CAR’s modular curriculum, and its hours count toward an associate of applied science. The ASE Education Foundation renewed the program’s accreditation in June 2026 through 1 May 2031, per the college’s announcement. Students who also want mechanical repair can take Automotive Technology on the same campus, and the new Powersports Technology certificate there covers powersports vehicles and dealership software.
CDL training
The Class A CDL course at the Coffeyville Technical Campus can be completed in as little as eight weeks, and new classes start at least once a month. It meets the federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) rules and includes time on a driving simulator. Students can schedule their state driving skills test in Kansas, Oklahoma or Missouri. The college reported new federal funding for technical expansion, including CDL, in January 2026.
Phlebotomy
Phlebotomy is a short certificate of two courses totalling 6 credits. Its clinical part runs to more than 120 hours in local hospitals and doctors’ offices, where each student must complete at least 50 venipunctures and 25 skin punctures. Students must be at least 18 and have a high-school diploma or GED. On completion they are eligible to sit a national phlebotomy certification exam; the college’s page does not name the certifying agency or publish a pass rate.
Tuition and fees for 2026-27
CCC charges every Kansas resident the same rate, whether or not they live in Montgomery County, and has a lower out-of-state rate for some nearby Oklahoma and Missouri counties, according to the college’s 2026-27 tuition data sheet.

A year of 18 credits a semester therefore costs $4,140 for Kansans and $5,220 for out-of-state students, before books (about $1,000 a year) and course fees. Online courses add $50 per credit. The 2026-27 Kansas rate is $10 a credit higher than 2025-26.
Technical programs add their own charges, set out on the college’s technical program fees page: a $500 shop fee each semester for automotive, collision, construction, electrical, HVAC, machining, plumbing, powersports and welding, and a higher welding rate of $160 per credit for Kansans and $190 out of state. The CNA course costs $650 for Kansans and the medication aide course $535.
Practical Nursing tuition is listed at $4,320 for Kansans plus $3,060 in nursing program fees, and the ADN year at $4,160 plus $3,445, on the college’s nursing fees page.
Federal aid and other help with costs
CCC takes federal student aid, and 55% of full-time first-year students received a Pell grant in 2023-24. The average net price for full-time beginners after grants was $6,315 in 2023-24, per College Navigator. Kansas high-school students can take most technical programs tuition-free. Montgomery and Cherokee County residents aged 55 and over can take up to six tuition-free credit hours a year with a Gold Card; fees still apply.
Open admission, with limits for nursing and paramedic
Admission is open, but nursing and paramedic are selective. Nursing takes applications once a year for an August start. Most technical certificates run two full-time semesters, and welding can also be taken part-time over 18 months. CDL classes start at least monthly. Fire Science and Medical Assistant mix online and in-person work, with the $50-per-credit online fee on the online courses.
Accreditation and results
CCC has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1972. After a comprehensive visit in November 2024, HLC reaffirmed its accreditation in 2025, with the next comprehensive evaluation in 2034-35, per the college’s announcement.
Nursing results come from the Kansas State Board of Nursing’s multi-year PN and RN pass-rate tables; the other figures are federal data.

The nursing classes are small: the college awarded 9 practical nursing certificates and 13 RN degrees in 2023-24, so one candidate moves the rate a lot. The RN pass rate was 73.68% in 2021 and 64.71% in 2022, below the Kansas average, before three years at 100%, per the Board’s RN table. The college also says its PN and ADN graduates have a 100% job placement rate, without giving a year.
Before you enroll
- There is no direct-entry RN program. You need a PN licence (for example by passing the NCLEX-PN after CCC’s own Practical Nursing year) or a Kansas paramedic licence before the Associate Degree Nurse year, and each year has one August start.
- The nursing programs are approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing but are not ACEN-accredited. If you plan a later bachelor’s degree in nursing, ask that school whether this matters.
- Medical Assistant reports a 100% CCMA pass rate for 2020-2024, but federal data show no medical assistant completions in 2023-24, so ask how many students finished recently.
- Most trade programs are taught at the technical campuses, not the main campus. Collision repair and powersports are only in Columbus, and the lineman program on the Coffeyville Technical Campus is a Pratt Community College credential.
- Welding students pay a higher per-credit rate, and every shop program adds $500 a semester, so the $115 headline rate understates the cost of a trade certificate.

On Niche, Coffeyville Community College is rated 3.6 out of 5 from 184 reviews, with an overall grade of C (checked 12 October 2026). Reviewers praise small classes and attentive instructors, welcoming and supportive staff and advisers, and a well-kept campus with student activities. Niche’s summaries of the complaints point to mixed dining quality and short dining hours, worries about safety in the town and drug use in the dorms, and unreliable campus WiFi and athletic facilities that need repair. The three reviews Niche shows first are all five stars, so the visible sample leans positive, and the reviews cover the whole college rather than one program.
