Delaware’s statewide community college, on four campuses
Delaware Technical Community College, usually called Delaware Tech, was created by the Delaware General Assembly in 1966 and opened its first campus, now the Owens Campus in Georgetown, in September 1967. It is one public college with four campuses: Terry in Dover, Owens in Georgetown, Stanton in Newark and George in downtown Wilmington. It counted 13,337 undergraduates in fall 2024, according to federal IPEDS data, and the state budget reports that 95% of its students in fiscal 2025 were Delaware residents.
The biggest recent change is the Allied Health Center of Excellence, a $22 million renovated building on the Wilmington campus that opened in late 2024 and now holds most of the college’s health programs. The catalog has also been trimmed: it lists 57 degrees, diplomas and certificates for 2026-27, after automotive, diesel and several business degrees were dropped or merged in 2025-26.

A dash means the catalog does not state a schedule, campus or accreditation for that program. Business Administration’s campuses are not listed in the catalog pages we used. The college also teaches engineering technology, drafting, architectural design, applied agriculture, criminal justice and transfer programs; see the list further down the page.
Most health programs carry their own accreditation, shown in the table. The Legal Studies degree is approved by the American Bar Association. Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Management and Marketing are now concentrations inside the Business Administration degree rather than degrees of their own.
What the main programs cover
Nursing: ADN, Practical Nursing and RN-to-BSN
The Nursing AAS is 65 credits and is taught at Dover, Georgetown and Stanton, not at the Wilmington campus. Admission is competitive. Licensed practical nurses and nationally certified paramedics receive advanced placement, which shortens the route to the NCLEX-RN. Practical Nursing Studies is a separate 39-credit diploma over four semesters, taught at the same three campuses. Registered nurses who want a bachelor’s degree can finish the college’s online RN-to-BSN, which totals 120 credits.
Allied health in Wilmington
The Allied Health Center of Excellence on the George campus brought most of the college’s imaging and therapy programs under one roof in late 2024; Paramedic and Surgical Technology, once taught only in Dover, gained Wilmington classes there. Dental Hygiene (85 credits) starts each fall and builds in clinic courses plus community fieldwork. Occupational Therapy Assistant students complete Level I and Level II fieldwork, and Physical Therapist Assistant students take three clinical courses. All of these programs fill seats through the allied health selection process, and some prerequisites carry an age limit.
Aviation Maintenance Technology
The aviation program is the college’s FAA Part 147 school, run from the Owens campus with hands-on training at Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown. The full associate degree is 95 credits and prepares students for the FAA airframe and powerplant exams. Students can also take the General Airframe Maintenance Certificate (53 credits) or the General Powerplant Maintenance Certificate, both taught at Georgetown.
Refrigeration, Heating & Air Conditioning
The HVAC program at the Owens campus comes as a 61-credit associate degree or a 33-credit diploma, and both include ACR 114, a one-credit EPA seminar and exam for handling refrigerants. Delaware’s eligible training provider list describes the degree as 60 weeks and 1,230 hours. People who want a shorter, non-credit option can look at the 300-hour HVAC Technician certificate run by the college’s workforce division at the Innovation & Technology Center in New Castle, a training site rather than a campus.
Culinary Arts
Culinary Arts is a 60-credit associate degree accredited by the American Culinary Federation and taught at the Stanton and Terry campuses. Baking (CUL 261) is a required course, so every graduate gets some pastry work. Stanton’s culinary wing grew by 5,600 square feet in June 2025. The 17-credit Baking and Pastry Skills Certificate, also at Dover and Stanton, suits students who want a short credential before or instead of the full degree.
Tuition and fees for 2026-27
Delaware Tech charges one statewide rate; there is no separate county or in-district price. Tuition rose about 2.8% for residents in 2026-27, from $152.50 a credit.

A full-time Delaware resident taking 15 credits a semester pays $4,702.50 in tuition for fall and spring, before fees. The main fees are:

Seniors are exempt from the student service fee, and late registration costs $25. The catalog lists no application fee.
Paying for it: federal aid and SEED+
Delaware Tech takes federal student aid, including Pell Grants. Delaware’s SEED+ program (Student Excellence Equals Degree) covers tuition, after any Pell Grant, for Delaware residents in credit programs and in non-credit programs that lead to a credential. It does not cover fees or books. Students generally need a 2.5 GPA, though workforce certificates have no GPA minimum, and applicants aged 25 or older need five years of Delaware residency. According to the state’s scholarship listing, the 2026 application window ran from 1 October 2025 to 30 June 2026. The catalog also sets out a priority-of-service policy for veterans and eligible spouses.
Open admission, with selective nursing and allied health
Delaware Tech is an open-admission college, but that applies to the college, not to every program:
- Nursing and all allied health programs (dental hygiene, imaging, respiratory care, surgical technology, OTA, PTA, paramedic and others) admit students through a competitive selection process.
- Prerequisite age limits: several allied health programs accept prerequisite courses only if they were taken recently.
- Paralegal Certificate: open only to students who already hold an associate or bachelor’s degree.
- Start dates: Dental Hygiene starts only in fall; Radiologic Technology starts in fall (Wilmington) or summer (Georgetown and Wilmington).
The RN-to-BSN is taught online. For other programs, check the class schedule for the campus you plan to attend; we could not confirm which programs run in the evening.
Accreditation and results
Delaware Tech is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. College Navigator lists the college as accredited since 1972, with its next review due in 2030. Program accreditors and approvals include ACEN (nursing), CODA (dental hygiene), JRCERT (radiologic technology), CAAHEP (sonography, surgical technology, medical assisting and paramedic), CoARC (respiratory care), ACOTE (OTA), CAPTE (PTA), NAACLS (medical laboratory and histotechnician), JRCNMT (nuclear medicine), the AVMA (veterinary technology), the ACF (culinary arts), the ABA (legal studies) and the FAA (aviation maintenance).

The college says it assesses graduate placement each year, but we found no current placement figures, so none are given here. We also found no published pass rates for its imaging, therapy or dental programs.
Before you enroll
- Open admission does not mean a seat in nursing or allied health: those programs select students competitively, and some will not count older prerequisite courses.
- Automotive Technology and Diesel Technology associate degrees are no longer in the catalog (last listed in 2024-25), even though Georgetown opened an Automotive Center of Excellence in 2021 and some automotive and diesel courses are still listed. Ask the college what, if anything, is still offered before planning on either.
- The Medical Assistant associate degree was dropped in 2026-27; the 36-credit diploma remains, taught in Wilmington.
- Check the campus. The Nursing degree is not taught at the Wilmington campus, Medical Laboratory Technician and aviation are only in Georgetown, and Cardiovascular Sonography is only in Wilmington.
- The 22% graduation rate counts only full-time, first-time students who finished within three years; most Delaware Tech students study part-time, so it describes a minority of them.

The college’s Innovation & Technology Center in New Castle and its Middletown training site run non-credit workforce courses and are not campuses. Aviation students train at Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown.
Clinical placements and fieldwork
Health programs build supervised practice into the degree: Dental Hygiene’s clinic courses and community fieldwork, OTA’s Level I and II fieldwork, PTA’s three clinical courses and the Medical Assistant diploma’s four-credit internship. Veterans and eligible spouses get priority of service under a catalog policy.
What students say
Niche reviews Delaware Tech by campus, and each page has more than 25 reviews (checked 9 October 2026): Terry 3.87 out of 5 from 189 reviews (grade B−), Owens 3.97 from 228 (grade B) and Stanton-Wilmington 3.89 from 297 (grade B+). Reviewers most often praise approachable, supportive instructors, nursing faculty in particular; small classes; and the low cost, helped by SEED, along with a choice of in-person, online and hybrid classes. Common complaints are little campus life, frustration with the financial aid office and administration, dated facilities or renovation disruption at Terry in 2024, and hard-to-enter programs with few evening classes. A sample of the Terry reviews showed no burst of same-day posts.
