Lane County’s public college, on quarter terms
Lane Community College is the public community college district for most of Lane County, Oregon, from the Pacific coast to the Cascades, plus school districts in Benton, Linn and Douglas counties: about 390,000 residents in all. Founded in 1964, it teaches on quarter terms at a main campus and a downtown center in Eugene, an aviation academy at the Eugene Airport and centers in Cottage Grove and Florence. Lane awards career certificates, associate degrees and two bachelor’s degrees, a BSN for licensed RNs and a BAS in Applied Business Management. For career students, what sets it apart is the aviation academy with its own aircraft, health programs accredited by CODA, CAPTE, CAAHEP and ACEN, and classroom training for Oregon building-trades apprentices. 2026 brought budget cuts, two suspended degrees and an accreditation Warning, which Lane announced on 12 Aug 2026.
Career programs in the 2026-27 catalog
Lane awards associate of applied science degrees, one-year certificates, shorter career pathway certificates and certificates of completion, non-credit training through Continuing Education, and two bachelor’s degrees. The table lists the main career programs. Cost estimates are the catalog’s own, at resident tuition, and include tuition, fees, program fees and books; the catalog says they may vary. Most catalog program pages do not say where a program is taught, so the table names a place only where a source does; a dash means the source gave no figure.

Computer science is a transfer degree only at Lane, and the Criminal Justice AAS is suspended, with current students finishing during a transition. Pharmacy technician, massage therapy, project management and real estate pre-licence training are offered only as non-credit Continuing Education courses.
What the main programs cover
Nursing: prerequisites, then the ADN
Nursing applicants first complete at least 29 credits of prerequisites with a C or better and a 3.00 GPA, then apply to the limited-entry program; Lane charged a $35 application fee per health program in 2025. The AAS itself is 90 quarter credits and includes a practicum course (NRS 224B). Students can apply to graduate with the Practical Nursing certificate after finishing the first year, so a PN route remains open while the standalone LPN cohort is paused. Admitted students need a drug test, a background check and immunizations.
Professional pilot and aviation maintenance
Both programs run from the Aviation Academy at the Eugene Airport, a tower-controlled Class D airport. Pilot students fly the college’s dual-control Piper and Cessna aircraft and work through private, instrument, commercial and multi-engine ratings, then flight instructor and instrument instructor; private, instrument and commercial pilot certificates can be earned on the way. Starts are in summer, with limited spring entry. Maintenance students need a supplemental admission form and director approval, and finish ready for the FAA written, oral and practical exams for airframe and powerplant.
Physical therapist assistant
The PTA AAS admits one class a year. Before entry, students complete at least 14 prerequisite credits; the program then runs 90 to 94 credits, including three clinical co-op courses (PTA 280A, 280B and 280C) of six credits each. Lane teaches the program in Eugene and also through a Southern Oregon cohort hosted at Rogue Community College, a separate college, which has its own, higher cost estimate. Graduates sit the National Physical Therapy Exam.
Dental assisting and dental hygiene
The one-year Dental Assisting certificate (48 credits after 11 to 16 prerequisite credits) is CODA-accredited, which puts graduates on DANB’s Pathway I to the Certified Dental Assistant exam. The program also prepares students for Oregon’s Expanded Function Dental Assistant, Expanded Function Orthodontic Assistant and Radiologic Proficiency certifications, and for certificates in sealants, relines and retraction cord. Dental Hygiene is a separate, 98-credit AAS, 48 to 49 credits of it prerequisites, accredited by CODA since 1970 according to IPEDS.
CNC machining and inspection
The 90-credit CNC Machining and Inspection AAS is built around a CNC course sequence numbered 111 to 231, covering machine operation, 3D modelling, lathe and mill work, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), advanced projects and a skill-proofing course. The catalog says students earn several certificates from industry but does not name them or mention NIMS, so ask which credentials are included. A first career pathway certificate, CNC Machining and Inspection 1, is also offered.
Apprenticeship classes for the building trades
Lane’s apprenticeship degrees are related classroom instruction for people already in a registered Oregon apprenticeship, not a way into one. Students must be registered with BOLI, accepted by a joint apprenticeship training committee and sponsored by an employer. The Construction Trades, General Apprenticeship AAS has tracks for carpenters (36 credits), glaziers (27), HVAC technicians and installers (44), plumbers (40) and sheet metal workers (47), with 8,000 hours of approved on-the-job training. The Electrician Apprenticeship Technologies AAS has five electrical tracks, each with a licence exam preparation course (APR 220).
Tuition and fees for 2026-27
Lane’s board raised tuition by 1.2%, or $2 a credit, on 4 March 2026 and left the other mandatory fees unchanged. Rates for 2026-27, from the catalog:
- Oregon residents: $151 per quarter credit (up from $149). There is one resident rate, with no separate in-district rate.
- Non-residents: $350 per credit (up from $346).
- Online classes: $151 per credit for residents and non-residents alike.
- International students: $330 per credit for 1–5 credits; $2,150 a term for 6–8 credits, $3,150 for 9–11 and $3,750 for 12–18; $330 for each credit over 18.
- Non-credit classes: $5 per contact hour.
Mandatory fees are a $14 per credit technology fee; $10 per credit for online or hybrid classes, up to $50 a course; a $60 per term Student Health Clinic fee; a transportation fee of $27 a term for Main Campus classes (or adult basic skills and ESL at Main or Downtown) and $5 elsewhere; a $54.60 student activity fee for Main Campus credit classes; and a one-time $31 credit enrollment fee. Some career programs add differential fees.
The catalog’s program estimates range widely: $9,283 for Web Design, $9,890 and $10,301 for the baking and culinary certificates, $12,297 for Medical Assistant, $23,318 for Aviation Maintenance, $28,150 for Paramedicine, $51,320 for Dental Hygiene and $112,205 to $114,786 for Professional Pilot. For a yearly figure, College Navigator listed 2024-25 tuition and fees of $6,202 in state and $13,078 out of state (checked October 2026).
Lane takes federal financial aid, including Pell Grants and loans, offers Federal Work-Study, and runs TRiO support programs.
Open admission, limited-entry programs
Anyone can enroll at Lane, but many career programs have their own application, prerequisites and start dates:
- Nursing: prerequisites with a C or better and a 3.00 GPA; drug test, background check and immunizations.
- Physical Therapist Assistant admits once a year. Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Respiratory Care and Paramedicine are also limited entry; Lane charged a $35 application fee per health program in 2025.
- Aviation Maintenance needs director approval; Professional Pilot starts in summer, with limited spring entry.
- BSN: a current Oregon RN licence; priority by application date and GPA.
- Culinary Arts: first qualified, first admitted, with a waitlist.
- Apprenticeship degrees: BOLI registration, acceptance by a JATC and an employer sponsor.
Lane runs on quarters. Health programs include clinical or co-op courses, such as the Medical Assistant co-op in local clinics in the spring term and the three PTA clinical co-ops.
Accreditation, the 2026 Warning, and results
Lane has been accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) since 1968, at the associate and baccalaureate levels. NWCCU now lists the college under a public sanction of Warning, which Lane announced on 12 August 2026. The commission found Lane out of compliance with its standards on clearly defined governance roles and authority, on ethical leadership and equitable treatment of students and employees, and on the board’s conflict-of-interest policies and practices. Lane must report its progress in fall 2027. The college says the Warning “is not a threat to LCC’s accreditation and will not impact financial aid, classes or other day-to-day operations.” Lane remains accredited. A separate Spring 2026 special report on policies and finances found the college substantially compliant.
Program accreditors named in the catalog are ACEN (nursing and practical nursing, since July 2023), CODA (dental hygiene and dental assisting), CAPTE (physical therapist assistant), CAAHEP (medical assistant and paramedicine), CoARC (respiratory care, provisional), the FAA (Part 147 aviation maintenance school), the ASE Education Foundation (automotive) and the AED Foundation (diesel). The Oregon State Board of Nursing approves the nursing curriculum. The catalog names no accreditor for the BSN or for culinary and baking.

College-wide, College Navigator (IPEDS) shows a 20% graduation rate and an 18% transfer-out rate for full-time, first-time students within 150% of normal program time, counting students who transfer before finishing separately (checked October 2026). By the same source, Lane had 6,810 credit undergraduates in fall 2024, 45% of them full time; the catalog’s figure of over 17,000 students includes high-school dual-credit and non-credit students. We found no published job-placement rates and no pass rates for the dental, PTA, respiratory, paramedic or FAA exams.
Before you enroll
- The accreditation Warning is current. NWCCU’s findings concern governance roles, ethical leadership and the board’s conflict-of-interest practices, and Lane must report progress in fall 2027. Lane says aid and classes are unaffected; check NWCCU’s directory for the latest status.
- Lane is cutting costs. Its 2026-27 budget, adopted on 3 June 2026, cut about $4.2 million and 20.5 positions and reduced tutoring, library and other support. The Health Information Management and Criminal Justice AAS degrees were suspended; remaining HIM students finish through Klamath Community College. A months-long faculty contract dispute ended with a tentative agreement in February 2026.
- No standalone LPN intake is confirmed for 2026-27. Lane paused its Practical Nursing cohort for 2025-26 with one week’s notice, and the LPN-to-RN bridge ran as a one-term pilot in 2025. Nursing students can still apply for the PN certificate after the first year of the ADN.
- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC and carpentry are for registered apprentices only. You need BOLI registration, a JATC and an employer sponsor before Lane’s classes count. Lane has no standalone plumbing, HVAC or carpentry program outside apprenticeship.
- Ask where your classes meet. The catalog does not name the location for most programs. Older college pages describe the Cottage Grove and Florence centers as places for general education, transfer and adult education, and we found no career-technical program confirmed at either.
Housing and work placements
Titan Court, a 255-bed building of 75 units beside the Downtown Center, was completed in fall 2012 as part of the downtown campus project to house Lane’s local and international students. Lane’s Cooperative Education office runs the work placements that several programs require, including Medical Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Construction Technology and Web Design. Lane publishes no job-placement statistics.
