MDCC: a Delta community college with two main campuses
Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) is one of Mississippi’s 15 public community colleges. It began in 1926 alongside Sunflower Agricultural High School as Sunflower Junior College, became Mississippi Delta Junior College in 1960-61 and took its current name in 1989. The main campus is in Moorhead, a small Sunflower County town, and most career programs, every health program except the Health Care Assistant certificate, and the residence halls are there. A second campus, the Greenville Higher Education Center, is the only place for culinary arts and cybersecurity.
The college reported a preliminary fall 2025 headcount of 2,134, up 4% and its highest since 2019. In spring 2026 it said headcount rose 14.3%, the largest increase among the state’s community colleges.
Programs and where they are taught
MDCC’s career programs lead to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS), an Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC), a Technical Certificate (TC) or a shorter certificate of completion, so in many trades students can stop after a certificate or continue to the degree. Tuition is the same for every program; health programs publish their own extra program costs.

Two programs that earlier versions of this page listed are no longer in the college’s program list. CAPTE placed the Physical Therapist Assistant program on probation in April 2024 and again in April 2025, and it is not in the 2026-27 catalog (see below). Computer Networking Technology has been replaced by Cybersecurity Technology at Greenville; the college describes it as covering network defense and system administration but names no industry certifications.
Truck driving, electrical lineman, EMT, pharmacy technician, carpentry and aviation maintenance courses are short non-credit training run by the college’s workforce division, based at the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Technology Center in Indianola, not credit programs. Ask what credential a workforce course leads to before enrolling.
What the main programs cover
Associate Degree Nursing
The ADN is taught in the Horton Building at Moorhead and prepares graduates for the NCLEX-RN exam and licensure as a registered nurse. It holds continuing accreditation from ACEN and is also approved by the Mississippi IHL Board of Trustees. Students apply to the program separately from college admission. Licensed practical nurses can enter through an accelerated track to the same degree; the college reports that 100% of the 2024 accelerated-track students finished within the normal program length, against 61% of the whole 2024 class within 150% of it.
Dental Hygiene Technology
The AAS combines 51 hours of dental hygiene courses with 24 academic hours, 75 credits in all. Students treat patients in the college’s own Dr. Arthur Richter Dental Hygiene Clinic on the Moorhead campus. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Graduates take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and a state board exam. The college says its students have had a 100% pass rate on the national board for nearly a decade, but it publishes no yearly counts, so treat the claim as the college’s own.
Medical Laboratory Technology
The MLT degree runs for two academic years and two summers in the Greer-Stafford Allied Health Building at Moorhead. Its clinical part is a 20-week practicum in a hospital laboratory rather than on campus. NAACLS has accredited the program since 1982, and graduates can sit the ASCP Board of Certification exam for medical laboratory technicians. Entry is by a separate program application with its own deadline; for the fall 2026 class the college extended it to 15 June 2026.
Radiologic Technology
Radiography is a 22-month AAS run over five consecutive semesters, starting each August and finishing in May, so students should expect to study through the summer. Graduates are eligible for the ARRT registry exam. In October 2024 JRCERT awarded the program an eight-year accreditation with an interim report due in 2028 and the next site visit tentatively set for 2032. The college’s own 2025 program-effectiveness report shows empty tables, so the results section uses the figures shown on the program’s JRCERT page.
HVAC&R
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration is taught at both Moorhead and Greenville, as a Technical Certificate and an Advanced Technical Certificate, with an AAS route and accelerated tracks listed in the 2026-27 catalog. Students prepare for the EPA refrigerant certification tests for Type I, Type II and Type III technicians and the Universal certification. Entry needs an ACT score of at least 14 or a TABE result at 9th-grade level. The catalog lists the new Jackson–Bailey Hall, used for HVAC and industrial electricity, in its Greenville section.
Welding
Welding is a Technical Certificate taught in the Allen-Foley Career-Technical Center at Moorhead. The course work covers arc, MIG, TIG and flux-core welding, along with weld inspection and testing. It is a one-credential program with no advanced certificate or degree, unlike most MDCC trades. The college’s program page does not mention American Welding Society or NCCER certification, so students who need a specific certification for a job should ask how the program prepares for it.
Tuition, fees and how students pay
Mississippi residents pay $1,800 a semester for a full-time load of 12 to 21 credits in fall 2026, and students from other states add a $1,600 out-of-state fee, per the college’s Fall 2026 fee sheet. Fees rose for 2026-27: full-time tuition was $1,725 and the out-of-state fee $1,300 in spring 2026, and the capital expense fee is new. There is no separate in-district rate.

For an in-state commuter taking 15 credits, the Fall 2026 fee sheet prints a total of $2,095 a semester and the 2026-27 catalog $2,245, so add up the items above rather than relying on either total. Fees for individual programs vary and are not on the fee sheet. The fall 2026 bill can be paid in three equal instalments.
The catalog says MDCC takes part in Pell grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants and Federal Work-Study, but not in any federal loan program. State aid includes MTAG (up to $500 a year), MESG (up to $2,500 a year) and the HELP grant, which covers full tuition for eligible students. The college’s Dean’s Scholarship covers full tuition for students with an ACT score of 18 to 24, and the Presidential Scholarship is for Mississippi first-time freshmen with 25 or higher. Veterans and other eligible persons under Title 38 pay in-state tuition.
Open admission, with separate entry to health programs
MDCC is an open-admission college. Health programs (nursing, dental hygiene, lab technology and radiography) take separate applications with their own deadlines, and HVAC needs an ACT score of 14 or a TABE result at 9th-grade level. Radiologic Technology starts only in August. Online classes are taken through the Mississippi Virtual Community College at $25 per credit extra, but no career program is listed as fully online.
Accreditation and results
MDCC has been accredited since 1930 by The Commission on Colleges and Universities, the regional accreditor formerly called SACSCOC, which took its new name on 1 September 2026. The college’s last reaffirmation was in 2018, the next is due in 2028, and the accreditor lists no public sanctions. Programmatic accreditation covers Associate Degree Nursing (ACEN), Dental Hygiene (CODA), Medical Laboratory Technology (NAACLS) and Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and Practical Nursing is approved by the Mississippi Board of Nursing.

The ADN pass rate has moved a lot from year to year, from 73% to 100% and back to 78%. The college counted 43 graduates in the 2023 class.
The Physical Therapist Assistant program was placed on probationary accreditation by CAPTE on 30 April 2024, for not meeting its standard that graduates’ licensure pass rates average at least 85% over two years, and again on 29 April 2025. The program is not in the college’s 2026-27 catalog.
Before you enroll
- MDCC does not offer federal student loans. Students pay through grants, state aid, scholarships, work-study or the three-instalment payment plan.
- The ADN’s first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate was 78% for 2024 graduates and 73% for 2022, and about six in ten students in recent classes finished within 150% of the program’s length.
- CAPTE placed the Physical Therapist Assistant program on probation in April 2024 and April 2025, and it is not in the 2026-27 catalog. Students who want PTA training should check its status with the college before planning on it.
- Culinary arts and cybersecurity are taught only in Greenville, and housing is only at Moorhead.
- Truck driving, lineman, EMT and pharmacy technician training are short non-credit courses run by the college’s workforce division, not degree or certificate programs.

Electrical Technology and HVAC are taught at both campuses. MDCC also runs a Greenwood Center for the Health Care Assistant certificate, university-transfer courses and adult education, but the college’s website and its 2026-27 catalog give different addresses: the locations page gives 204 East Church St., while the catalog describes the former Malouf Furniture building at Highway 82 West and West President Avenue, which the college bought in 2025. Confirm the address with the college before visiting. The college also teaches at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, for incarcerated students only.

On Niche, Mississippi Delta Community College is rated 4.09 out of 5 from 157 reviews, with an overall grade of B- (checked 12 October 2026). Reviewers most often praise instructors who are supportive and easy to reach, including in online classes, helpful advising, and a dual-enrollment experience that treats high-school students like college students. The main complaints are frustration with financial-aid office processes and few weekend events or activities, and one review criticizes an individual instructor. The reviews cover the whole college, and we could not tell whether any were invited by the school or posted in bursts.
