A Providence-area trade school on both sides of the state line
MotoRing Technical Training Institute (MTTI) is a private, for-profit career school that began as a workforce development program and dates itself to 1985. It trains students for work in seven fields: automotive service, building and property trades, computer service and network installation, residential and commercial electrical work, HVAC/R, medical assisting, and motorcycle and power equipment repair. Six programs are taught at its main campus in Seekonk, MA, at the Rhode Island line near Providence; the electrician program is taught at a satellite campus in East Providence, RI. Federal data counts about 436 students across the two sites (312 in Seekonk, 124 in East Providence). Medical Billing & Coding is no longer on the school’s program list. The school says it is on USA TODAY’s 2026 list of America’s Top Vocational Schools, for the second year running.

Hours and course names come from MTTI’s program catalog inserts, such as the Automotive insert; the Computer Service and Motorcycle hours come from its cost of attendance sheet. All classes are in person. Every program ends with a required internship of 120 hours (156 for Medical Assistant), which students may start only after passing all their courses. The program pages call each offering a program and do not say whether it leads to a diploma or a certificate, so ask what the completion document is. Plumbing is taught only as an 87-hour unit inside Building & Property Trades, not as a program of its own.
What the main programs cover
Automotive Service Technician
The courses start with orientation and safety and an introduction to automotive work, then cover preventive maintenance (90 hours), heating, A/C and engine operation (114), precision measuring and brakes, suspension, steering and alignment, basic electricity with charging and starting systems (108), electronics with fuel and ignition, and state inspection, diagnostics and hybrid theory. A 12-hour career services course comes before the 120-hour internship. The insert names OSHA 10 General Industry but no ASE or EPA 609 certification. Day classes run Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; evenings Monday to Wednesday, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Building & Property Trades Technician
The program opens with a 123-hour introduction, then covers basic carpentry and power tools (129 hours), exterior siding and roofing (60), electrical (81), plumbing (87), HVAC and green energy (108) and interior finish (138), followed by 54 hours of review, résumé and interview work and the 120-hour internship. About half the time is spent in the shop, where each class builds a small house. Students earn OSHA 10 Construction and ladder safety training. The school lists maintenance and repair workers, carpenters and carpenter helpers among the jobs it leads to. It runs by day only.
Residential & Commercial Electrician
Taught at the East Providence satellite, the program covers orientation and the industry, basic theory and planning, wiring variations (120 hours), National Electrical Code requirements and installation (120), branch circuits and residential service entrances, low voltage (60), commercial wiring (126) and solar wiring (90), plus short customer service and career services courses and the 120-hour internship. OSHA 10 Construction and ladder safety are included. Students receive a professional tool kit and keep it if they are employed in the field within 90 days. The program page sends apprentice-hour questions to Admissions.
HVAC/R Technician
After a 60-hour introduction, the program pairs an electricity unit and a mechanical unit for each system: gas heat, air conditioning, oil heat and refrigeration, 69 to 96 hours each. A 15-hour career services course and the 120-hour internship finish it. After the gas and oil units, students may test for Rhode Island’s PJF Natural Gas and PJF Oil Heat licences, and the program prepares for the EPA Section 608 Universal exam; OSHA 10 and ladder safety are included. The school says Washington Monthly’s 2022 guide ranked the program third among US HVAC programs for return on investment.
Medical Assistant (& Phlebotomy)
A 12-hour orientation is followed by six 120-hour courses: practice management and safety; clinical management and vitals; lab procedures with anatomy and physiology I; clinical practices with anatomy and physiology II, which includes medical coding and claims; anatomy and physiology III; and therapeutics and electronic medical records. The 156-hour internship is in physician offices, hospitals or urgent care centers. Graduates are eligible for AMT’s Registered Medical Assistant and Registered Phlebotomy Technician exams, and earn completion certificates in EKG, phlebotomy, EHR and HIPAA plus AHA BLS/CPR. The school lists no CAAHEP or ABHES programmatic accreditation.
Computer service and motorcycle programs
Computer Service Technician/Network Installer and Motorcycle/Power Equipment Technician are taught at Seekonk by day only, over 30 weeks. MTTI is a CompTIA Authorized Partner, and motorcycle students earn OSHA 10 General Industry; the motorcycle program is 918 clock hours.
Cost: one price per program, day or evening
MTTI charges one price per program, the same by day or evening and the same for Massachusetts and Rhode Island residents. Its 2026-27 cost of attendance sheet, with rates effective from 1 January 2026, gives tuition plus the $50 application fee and $100 for books and supplies: Medical Assistant $17,500; Automotive, Building & Property Trades and Computer Service $18,000 each; Motorcycle $18,500; HVAC/R $20,300; and Electrician $23,300. Trade program tuition includes uniforms, and graduates who show verified training-related employment receive a tool kit (Electrician students keep theirs if employed in the field within 90 days); Medical Assistant graduates employed in the field within 90 days receive a stethoscope.
The same sheet puts the total cost of attendance, with living costs added, at $40,810 to $124,325. The figure depends on the program, on whether the student is a dependent living with parents or an independent student living off campus, and on the schedule: the 75-week evening programs carry far more months of living costs. MTTI has no housing. Median federal loan debt for 2019-20 completers was about $5,440 in Building & Property Trades, day HVAC/R and Electrician, according to the school’s consumer pages.
Financial aid and scholarships
MTTI takes federal aid (Pell grants, FSEOG, Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans and Parent PLUS loans) and Massachusetts state grants, and offers four interest-free in-house payment plans. The school reports that 59% of its 2024-25 students received Pell grants. It also accepts WIOA funding, Trade Adjustment Assistance funding in both states, Rhode Island Office of Rehabilitation Services and Department of Human Services funding, and Network RI. Its financial aid page lists an MTTI High School Senior Scholarship of $1,000 (one per program per year), Trade Academy awards of $2,500, two Heritage PHCE HVAC awards of $3,000 and the EGIA Foundation’s $2,500 HVAC HERO award. MTTI lists military and veterans’ benefits; ask which VA programs it is approved for.
Admission requirements and class times
- A high school diploma or equivalent, and an age of at least 18 by graduation.
- A suitability interview with an MTTI instructor.
- A valid driver’s licence (the director may waive it), the ability to read, write and speak English, and a completed application. No entrance exam is listed.
Federal data reports that MTTI admits all applicants. Every applicant starts at the Seekonk office; electrician tours are in East Providence. Day classes meet Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., about 30 hours a week; evening classes meet Monday to Wednesday, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., 12 hours a week. Upcoming starts listed in the catalog inserts include evening Medical Assistant on 20 October 2026, evening Electrician on 2 November, day Medical Assistant on 6 November, day HVAC/R on 16 November and day Electrician on 9 December 2026.
ACCSC accreditation and state approval
MTTI is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), and its re-accreditation runs on a five-year cycle; the school says ACCSC named it a School of Excellence for 2022 after its 2021 review. It is licensed by the Massachusetts Division of Occupational Licensure’s Office of Private Occupational Schools and approved by the Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education, according to its accreditation and approvals page. We found no lawsuits, settlements, or regulatory or accreditation actions involving MTTI from 2023 to 2026.
Graduation and employment rates
MTTI’s ACCSC graduation and employment report, updated 21 August 2025, covers day students who started between June 2023 and May 2024 and evening students who started between March 2022 and February 2023. Across all day programs, 89% graduated and 87% of graduates were employed; across the evening programs, 78% graduated and 92% were employed. The day totals include Medical Billing & Coding, since dropped. Graduates who died, were incarcerated, entered military service or have a disabling medical condition are left out of the counts. Several cohorts are small.

Before you enroll
- The two sites teach different programs: Electrician is taught only in East Providence, RI, and the other six programs only in Seekonk, MA.
- Evening classes exist only for Automotive, HVAC/R, Medical Assistant and Electrician, and take 75 weeks, about 18 months, against 30 weeks by day. Building & Property Trades, Computer Service and Motorcycle run by day only.
- The internship is required and starts only after every course is passed. The tool kit bonus depends on verified training-related employment, within 90 days for Electrician.
- Finishing the program is not a trade licence. The school does not say whether electrician hours count toward Massachusetts or Rhode Island apprentice requirements, and the gas and oil heat licence tests it names are Rhode Island’s.
- The Medical Assistant program lists no CAAHEP or ABHES programmatic accreditation; the exams it names are AMT’s RMA and RPT.
- Living costs make the evening programs far more expensive in total: the school’s own estimate for an independent evening student is more than $120,000.

Seekonk is on the Massachusetts side of the state line, next to East Providence. The school names the East Providence satellite as the Electrician campus on its admissions page, and federal data reports the two sites as separate units, with about 312 students at Seekonk and 124 at East Providence. MTTI offers no online programs.
Housing and career help
MTTI has no student housing; it is a commuter school. Career services is a graded course in every program, and staff help students find the required internship and a job, though the school says it cannot guarantee employment.
