Post University: a Waterbury campus and a much larger online school
Post University is a private university in Waterbury, Connecticut, founded in 1890; it moved to its Country Club Road campus in 1965. Most of its students study online, and it has four schools: the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences, the John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education, the Malcolm Baldrige School of Business, and the School of Arts and Sciences. The nursing college grew out of American Sentinel University, which Post acquired in 2021.
In December 2024 Post was bought by Universidad Andrés Bello, a private nonprofit university in Santiago, Chile, according to Post’s announcement. Post says the two remain independent institutions and that its day-to-day operations and academic leadership did not change.
Business, legal, computer and counseling programs, mostly online
Post’s degree list has about 60 programs: 6 associate degrees, 20 bachelor’s degrees, 5 certificates, 12 graduate certificates, 15 master’s degrees and 2 doctorates. Nearly all can be taken online, and most of the undergraduate programs are also taught on the Waterbury campus. The table covers the career-related credentials.

Post has no program that leads to a first nursing license. Its nursing college teaches RN to BSN, MSN and DNP students online, all of whom must already be registered nurses, so there is no NCLEX pass rate to report; Post does not appear on Connecticut’s NCLEX pass-rate list. The only campus-only career credential is the Equine Veterinary Assistant certificate, and art is offered only as a minor.
What the main programs cover
Paralegal Studies certificate
The certificate takes 30 credits and about 12 months, on the Waterbury campus or online. Admission requires high-school completion or an equivalent: a diploma, a GED or a home-school transcript recognized by the state. Post’s program page says the certificate is not designed to fulfill the educational requirements for any legal credential, naming a state law license and paralegal certification as examples, and Post does not claim American Bar Association approval. Students who want a longer credential can choose the associate or bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, also taught on campus and online.
Computer Information Systems BS, including cybersecurity
The 120-credit CIS bachelor’s typically takes four years and splits into four concentrations: Cybersecurity, which Post ties to the NICE framework; Computer Networking; Software Development; and a general CIS track. It is taught on the Waterbury campus and online. Post does not say that any concentration prepares students for CompTIA or other industry certification exams. Related programs on Post’s list are a BS in Data Science and an MS in Computer Science, both offered on campus as well as online.
Business Administration BS and MBA
The business bachelor’s is 120 credits and typically four years, with 11 concentrations that include accounting, finance, human resource management, international business administration and marketing. ACBSP accredits it, along with Post’s BS degrees in accounting, finance, management, marketing and sport management, the associate degrees in accounting, marketing and management, the MS in Accounting and the MBA. The MBA is taught on campus and online; the healthcare MBA, a combined MSN and healthcare MBA, and the DBA are online.
Clinical Mental Health Counseling MS
This 60-credit online master’s runs about 40 months and includes a field practicum and an internship. Post states that it is not designed to fulfill licensure requirements in an individual state, and Post does not claim CACREP accreditation for it. Post publishes state licensure disclosures for its counseling programs, so students should read their own state’s entry before enrolling. Below the master’s level, the BS in Human Services and the BA in Psychology are taught on campus and online, and two graduate certificates cover professional counseling and alcohol and drug counseling.
RN to BSN and MSN for licensed nurses
The RN to BSN requires an active, unencumbered US RN license; all of Post’s nursing programs are post-licensure. The RN to BSN is fully online, takes 12 to 24 months, requires 30 nursing credits and accepts up to 90 transfer credits; a self-paced SIMPath option bills by the semester instead of the credit. A combined RN to BSN/MSN path is also offered. The MSN runs 36 to 54 credits across eight specializations, including family, adult-gerontology primary care and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner tracks; Post publishes a state-by-state disclosure for the nurse practitioner tracks.

Other campus charges include $300 for parking, a $225 lab fee, a $175 art supply fee and $2,120 for health insurance, and Post estimates books at about $1,200 a year. By our own sum, a new full-time undergraduate pays $37,366 in tuition and the two fees, or about $51,400 with the cheaper room and the meal plan, before any aid; Post does not publish that total.
For online students, the latest schedule on Post’s online tuition page is still the one for 2025-26; no 2026-27 online rates had been posted when we checked in October 2026.

Nursing students also pay a $50 resource fee per three credits and a $750 clinical fee for each nurse practitioner clinical course. The online MBA rate ($689) is lower than the 2026-27 campus MBA rate ($730).
Post takes federal student aid (school code 001401). Military students get lower rates, listed on Post’s military tuition page for 2025-26: online undergraduate courses cost $250 per credit for active duty and $275 for veterans, spouses and dependents, and graduate courses $250 and $440. On campus, the military undergraduate rate is $19,546 a year. Post takes part in Yellow Ribbon on the main campus and accepts tuition assistance and GI Bill benefits; its campus merit scholarships cannot be combined with the military rate. Niche lists a net price of $21,229 a year.
Admissions and schedule
Undergraduate certificates and degrees require high-school completion or an equivalent. The RN to BSN requires an active, unencumbered US RN license, and the MSN and DNP are also for licensed nurses. Campus programs follow traditional semesters. Post’s MSN page describes eight-week terms, taken one course at a time, and the non-nurse-practitioner nursing programs can also be taken in SIMPath, a self-paced, competency-based format billed by the semester.
Accreditation and results
Post is licensed by the Connecticut Office of Higher Education and has been accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education since 1972. NECHE continued Post’s accreditation in September 2024 and in April 2026, after the change of ownership, placed it on a Program of Special Monitoring, according to NECHE’s listing for Post. Post describes the monitoring as not a negative action, and NECHE lists no probation, notation or show-cause order. Because of the ownership change, NECHE’s next evaluation visit is due within three years and is scheduled for 28-31 March 2027.
ACBSP accredits Post’s main business and accounting degrees, CCNE its bachelor’s and master’s nursing programs, and ACEN its DNP, per Post’s accreditation page. The same page lists NAEYC accreditation for the early childhood and child studies degrees with a term that ended in March 2026; we could not confirm a renewal. Post does not claim CACREP accreditation for its counseling master’s.
Post’s own figures show that 26% of students who started in fall 2019 graduated within 150% of normal time: 50% on the Waterbury campus and 21% online, according to Post’s graduation-rate page. Post notes these figures are separate from those it reports to the US Department of Education, and students who transferred out and graduated elsewhere count as non-completers.
Federal IPEDS data, as shown by Data USA, count 16,178 students in 2024 and a 24.2% graduation rate for first-time, full-time students. We found no published job-placement or licensure pass rates for its programs.
Before you enroll
- No Post program leads to a first nursing license. The RN to BSN, MSN, nurse practitioner and DNP programs are for nurses who already hold an RN license.
- NECHE placed Post on a Program of Special Monitoring in April 2026 after its December 2024 sale to Universidad Andrés Bello. Post says this is not a negative action; NECHE’s next visit is 28-31 March 2027.
- The counseling master’s is not designed to meet any single state’s licensure requirements and has no CACREP accreditation claim, and the paralegal certificate is not designed to meet the requirements of any legal credential. Check your state’s rules first.
- Cybersecurity is a concentration in the CIS bachelor’s degree, not a separate credential, and Post names no industry certification it prepares for.
- Post’s website still shows 2025-26 online prices; confirm the 2026-27 rate before enrolling.

Post takes part in NC-SARA and says students located in any state may enroll in all of its online programming, per its state approvals page. Programs that lead toward a license, in nursing, counseling and education, carry state-by-state disclosures. Post lists no other campus or office.
Housing and campus life in Waterbury
Campus housing includes the apartment-style Okinaga hall and West, South, Paparazzo, Middle and East halls. Post’s teams compete in NCAA Division II in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and in March 2026 Post launched a women’s flag football team, the first collegiate program in Connecticut. We found no published career-placement data.
What students say
Post’s main Niche profile has a rating of 4.34 out of 5 from 1,116 reviews and an overall grade of B− (checked 14 October 2026), according to Niche; a separate Post University Online profile scores higher, 4.72 from 188 reviews. Reviewers praise helpful advisors and professors, a flexible online format for working adults, and resources such as the laptop program. Complaints center on slow or inconsistent communication about academic planning and graduation requirements, on cost and running out of aid near the end of a degree, and on wanting more career-placement help and more scholarships for adult learners. Niche gathers reviews partly through student surveys and does not show exact posting dates, so we could not tell how many were prompted by the school.
