An online university, not a trade school
Strayer University awards associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, mostly online, to working adults: its 2025 fact sheet gave an average student age of 37 and said 91% study part-time. Enrolment was 33,553 in fall 2025, down from 37,090 at the end of 2024. Bachelor’s students make up 72% of enrolment, and business and technology programs 82% (Strategic Education, Aug 2026).
Most of what Strayer teaches is academic rather than trade training. The exception is new: a Licensed Practical Nurse diploma taught at the Washington, DC campus, approved by the DC Board of Nursing and with ACEN candidacy from 1 June 2026. Strayer has also cut its campus network sharply, from 58 campuses in the 2023–24 catalog to 25 on its locator in October 2026, and moved several of those that remain.

Strayer also offers an MS in Accounting, MS in Management, MS in Human Resource Management, a Master of Educational Design and Technology (not a teacher-licensure program) and an MPA. The Media Design School at Strayer, which teaches mainly in Auckland, New Zealand, delivers an MFA in Screen Scoring and Music Design at the Atlanta campus ($585 per credit hour). The 2026–27 tuition schedule also lists an Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology, but we could not confirm where it is taught or when it starts, so it is not included here.
What the main programs cover
Licensed Practical Nurse diploma (Washington, DC)
The 49-credit diploma combines nursing courses numbered NUR 100 to NUR 498 with Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Nutrition, and leads to the NCLEX-PN licensing exam. It is taught at the DC campus, not online. Admission is selective, unlike Strayer’s other undergraduate programs: applicants need a CNA certificate, CPR certification, a background check and drug screen, a high school GPA of 2.0 and an ACT score of 22 or SAT of 530. ACEN candidacy began on 1 June 2026 and runs to Spring 2028; the program is not yet ACEN-accredited.
BS in Information Technology
The BSIT is 40 online courses of 11 weeks, and Strayer estimates about 13.5 hours of work a week for each course. Students pick one of eight concentrations: artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, data management, IT project management, networking or software development. All coursework is online. Strayer also offers a 20-course associate in IT and, at graduate level, an MS in Information Systems and an MS in Cybersecurity.
BS in Criminal Justice
The criminal justice degree is an online bachelor’s with concentrations in crime and criminal behavior, criminal justice administration, digital forensics and cybersecurity, national security and emergency response, probation and parole, and AI. Strayer’s program page does not mention police-academy or state POST certification, so graduates who want to become police officers still need a separate academy. Like Strayer’s other bachelor’s degrees, it is 40 courses of 11 weeks.
Health services administration
Strayer’s health programs train managers, not clinicians. The BS in Health Services Administration offers concentrations including public health and health information management and analytics, and the same field is available as an associate, a BBA concentration, an MS (with concentrations including clinical care management and public health management) and an MBA concentration. Healthcare programs make up about 4% of enrolment (Strategic Education, Aug 2026).
Business and supply chain logistics
The Bachelor of Business Administration has ten concentrations, among them accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, marketing, project management and supply chain logistics. Associate degrees cover accounting, business administration, marketing and supply chain logistics. The Bachelor of Applied Science in Management is for students who already hold an associate degree in a technical or STEM field, or 54 or more transferable quarter hours.
Cost and paying for it in 2026–27
Strayer charges by the course, not by the year. In its 2026–27 schedule:
- Undergraduate courses (associate and bachelor’s): $1,555 per course of 4.5 quarter credits. A full 40-course bachelor’s is $62,200 in tuition and a 20-course associate $31,100, before transfer credit and scholarships.
- Master’s: $1,715 per course for the MS in Accounting, MS in Health Services Administration and Master of Educational Design and Technology; $2,540 for the MS in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Human Resource Management and Management; $2,040 for the MPA.
- MBA: $3,045 per course over ten courses, or $2,540 over twelve for North Carolina and Pennsylvania residents. The Jack Welch Management Institute MBA is $3,925 per course over twelve courses from Spring 2026.
- LPN diploma: $290 per credit, about $14,210 for 49 credits.
- Fees on the BSIT and BSCJ pages include a $65 technology fee each term and a $150 degree conferral fee.
College Navigator lists 2024–25 undergraduate tuition and fees of $13,920 a year and an average net price of $19,258 for full-time beginning students in 2023–24.
How the Learn and Earn scholarship works
New and readmitted bachelor’s students are enrolled automatically in the Strayer Learn and Earn Scholarship, which replaced the “Graduation Fund”. For every three courses a student passes at Strayer, they earn one tuition-free course, used against the last courses of the degree, up to ten free courses. Strayer says this can save up to 25% on a bachelor’s. By our arithmetic, a student who takes all 40 courses at Strayer would pay for 30, or $46,650 in 2026–27 tuition. Students who transfer in credit save less, because transfer, exam and developmental credits do not earn free courses. Earned courses are forfeited after two consecutive terms without attending. Associate, certificate, Jack Welch Management Institute and Media Design School students are not eligible, nor are Degrees@Work students, Strayer employees and some students whose employer pays tuition.
Federal aid, employers and other discounts
Strayer takes Pell Grants, Direct Loans and the GI Bill. Many students pay partly through an employer: Strategic Education reports 80 corporate agreements through its Workforce Edge platform, and employer-affiliated students made up 33.5% of its U.S. higher-education enrolment (August 2026). Strayer also accepts general-education credit from Sophia Learning, a low-cost, ACE-recommended course provider owned by the same company. For the LPN diploma, the DC Future LPN Scholarship capped tuition at $5,250 (no more than $1,312.50 a term) for the first 30 DC residents admitted to the July 2026 quarter; it cannot be combined with other awards.
Admissions and the quarter calendar
Undergraduate admission is open: applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent, a government photo ID and documentation of English and math proficiency. The LPN diploma and the radiologic technology associate listed in the tuition schedule are the exceptions, with test-score, GPA, background-check and drug-screen requirements. Strayer runs four 11-week quarters a year; the fall 2026 quarter starts on 5 October 2026. Courses are online, and campus pages say students “may be able to take select courses” in person, with priority for on-ground courses given to F-1 visa students.
Accreditation, results and federal claims
Strayer is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), which reaffirmed its accreditation on 12 March 2026; the next self-study is due in 2032–33. MSCHE approves Strayer for one- to two-year postsecondary awards, associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees and distance education, but not doctoral degrees. After adding the Media Design School in New Zealand as a Strayer location in August 2025, MSCHE held a site visit in February 2026 and asked for a supplemental report due 5 October 2026, routine follow-up rather than a sanction.
Federal data split Strayer into several reporting units. For the Strayer University-Global Region unit, College Navigator reports:

These rates cover only students starting college for the first time, a small share of Strayer’s mostly part-time, adult enrolment. Strayer publishes no job-placement rate.
Strayer was notified on 1 February 2024 that the U.S. Department of Education had received about 1,900 borrower defense applications from its students, filed between June and November 2022 (about 1,870 as of 30 September 2024). Strategic Education said the department might seek to recoup any discharged amounts; it had disclosed no determination in the filings we checked. We found no new state attorney general action or accreditor sanction for 2023–2026.
Why the campus list shrank from 58 to 25
Strayer’s catalogs listed 58 campuses in 2023–24, 47 in 2024–25 and 28 in 2025–26; its campus locator showed 25 in October 2026. When it closed its Killeen, Texas campus (reported 1 October 2025), Strayer said “more than 95% of Strayer students take all courses online”. Alexandria, Virginia closed on 15 December 2025. Several campuses moved to new sites in 2025–26, including the main Washington, DC campus, Center City in Philadelphia, Atlanta (from Chamblee) and Dallas Fort Worth (from Farmers Branch to Arlington, TX). Strategic Education recorded $4.6 million in restructuring costs, including severance and lease impairments, in the first half of 2026.
Many campuses are open only part of the week: Oklahoma City on Tuesdays only, Wilmington, Delaware on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Birmingham, Greensboro and Augusta on two days. Check a campus’s page before visiting. Little Rock, Arkansas and Piscataway, New Jersey still have campus pages and appear in the 2025–26 catalog, but they are not on Strayer’s locator, so we have not listed them as open campuses; we could not confirm whether they will stay open.
What the campuses offer
Strayer provides no student housing. Its campuses have Wi-Fi, a student lounge and local advisors for admissions and financial aid, and host the select in-person courses and the DC nursing program. No campus publishes its own program menu: apart from the LPN diploma in DC and the Atlanta MFA, every program is taught online and is open to students in any state.
Before you enroll
- Strayer is not a trade school. Apart from the DC LPN diploma, its programs are academic degrees taught online; the criminal justice degree, for example, is not police-academy training.
- A full bachelor’s costs $62,200 in 2026–27 tuition before the Learn and Earn scholarship. That scholarship pays only for courses at the end of the degree, is lost after two consecutive terms without attending, and is worth less if you transfer credit in.
- The LPN diploma is new: ACEN candidacy began on 1 June 2026 and the program is not yet accredited by ACEN. It is taught only in Washington, DC. Ask about clinical placements and NCLEX-PN results before enrolling.
- The campus you plan to use may have moved, may open only one to three days a week, or may have closed: 30 campuses dropped out of the catalog between 2023–24 and 2025–26.
- Federal graduation rates are low for first-time students (14% within 150% of normal time for the fall 2018 cohort at the Global Region unit), and Strayer publishes no job-placement rate.
What students say
On Niche, the “Strayer University-Georgia” page has 420 reviews averaging 4.07 out of 5 (checked October 2026). Reviewers praise the flexibility for working adults and supportive professors; complaints centre on slow financial-aid communication and verification problems, and on cost. On OnlineU (where GradReports now redirects), 68% of 411 reviewers would recommend Strayer and 59% say their career prospects improved, with reviews up to May 2026. Praise there is for flexibility, accessible professors, a practical curriculum and the free Sophia courses; complaints cover the price for the quality, outdated materials, financial-aid processing, weak placement support, discussion-board-heavy courses and slow transcripts. Niche’s figure belongs to one federal reporting unit, Strayer University-Georgia, rather than the whole university. We did not see an obvious burst of invited reviews, but did not check every review.
