A Central Texas junior college district with three sites
Temple College is a public two-year junior college district. The district was created in 1955 and has had its own board since 1959; the board is elected locally, and the college is funded by local property taxes, state appropriations and tuition. It opened in 1926, holding classes in the basement of Temple High School, moved to its South Temple site in 1957 and was known as Temple Junior College until 1996. The main campus covers about 108 acres and 27 buildings, and the college also runs centers in Hutto, opened in 2013, and Taylor.
Enrollment rose in 2025: the college’s 2025-26 budget counts 5,181 students in fall 2025, about 8% more than a year earlier. In April 2026 the U.S. Department of Education awarded the college a $2,093,000 grant to run accelerated truck-driver (CDL) and refrigerated-logistics training itself. The college’s website has moved from templejc.edu to templecollege.edu.
What Temple College teaches, and where
The college’s program index runs from short workforce courses to associate degrees and university-transfer tracks. The table shows the main career programs. Prices are given only for the workforce courses, which the college prices per course (fall 2026 and spring 2027 classes); credit programs are charged by the credit hour.

Several health programs carry programmatic accreditation: ACEN for the Associate Degree Nursing program, CoARC for respiratory care (program 200193, continuing accreditation), and CAAHEP for sonography (on the recommendation of JRC-DMS) and surgical technology (on the recommendation of ARC/STSA). The program index also lists Radiologic Technology and Polysomnography; check those program pages for their awards and accreditation.
Truck driving is not offered at the moment. The college’s CDL page says only that a new program is coming, and the April 2026 grant will let the college teach CDL in-house rather than through outside providers, with trucks on the road from fall 2026 at the earliest. The grant program also includes a 40-hour refrigerated-logistics certificate.
What the main programs cover
Associate Degree Nursing (RN)
The AAS in Nursing has two entry points. New students take the two-year track; licensed vocational nurses and paramedics can use the Bridging Advanced Placement track, which takes one year. Deadlines fall months before classes begin: 22 October 2026 for the two-year class starting in spring 2027, and 4 February 2027 for the Bridging class starting in summer 2027. Students who still need prerequisites can take the AS in Pre-Nursing, also offered at the Hutto center, but the nursing courses themselves are taught in the Health Sciences building in Temple.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Sonography is offered as several awards rather than a single program. General sonography can be taken as an associate degree or as an Advanced Technical Certificate, and cardiac sonography will follow the same pattern, with the first cohort expected to start in 2027. Vascular sonography is a separate Level II Certificate. Sonography admits once a year for a fall start, with applications due on the third Wednesday of May, and classes meet in the TCHS building on the Temple campus.
Emergency medical services
EMS training is built in steps. The EMT course starts every semester in Temple or Hutto and ends with an occupational skills award and eligibility for the National Registry exam; the spring 2027 deadline is 5 January 2027. From there students can take the Level 1 Advanced EMT certificate, the three-semester Level 2 Paramedic certificate in Temple, whose next class starts in spring 2027 with a 30 October 2026 deadline, or the full AAS in Emergency Medical Services. Paramedics can later bridge into the nursing degree.
Workforce health courses
The nurse aide, phlebotomy, pharmacy technician and coding courses are run by Workforce & Continuing Education, carry no college credit and are priced per course. Most meet outside working hours: nurse aide classes meet on Saturdays, phlebotomy on Monday and Wednesday evenings, pharmacy technician on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and coding live online on two evenings a week; the three in-person courses add online coursework in D2L. Two things need planning: nurse aide students must first finish the state’s NATCEP computer training, and the pharmacy externship runs on weekdays from 8 to 5.
Electromechanical and drafting programs at Temple and Taylor
The engineering technology department teaches at the Watson Technology Center in Temple and at the Taylor Center. Its awards range from occupational skills awards such as Electric-Tech, Mechanical-Tech, Safety-Tech and CADD Tech, through Level I certificates, including Electrical Assistant, Robotic Welding and Architectural CADD & Construction Technology, and the Level II Robotics certificate, to the AAS degrees in Electromechanical or CADD Engineering Technology. The separate AS in Engineering Technology is a transfer-type degree for students heading to a university engineering program.
Tuition: the latest confirmed rates are from 2024-25
Temple College charges by the semester credit hour, with a lower rate for students who live in the college district. The college has not posted its 2026-27 rates on the pages we could read, so the table gives the latest rates the college has confirmed, from its 2024-25 budget. Check the current rate on the college’s cost of attending page before you budget. The out-of-state rate is not given in the budget.

Workforce courses are priced separately and include the certification exam (and, except for Certified Nurse Aide, the textbook): $800 for Certified Nurse Aide, $2,300 for Phlebotomy Technician, $2,534 for Pharmacy Technician and $3,295 for Medical Coding (fall 2026 and spring 2027 classes).
Temple College takes federal student aid, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s net price calculator gives a personal estimate. Niche, using federal data, puts the average net price at $7,375 a year (checked October 2026). In May 2026 the college announced scholarships for adult learners; ask the financial aid office for amounts and eligibility.
Open admission, with selective health programs
Admission to the college is open. Most health programs admit separately, with their own application deadlines, often months before classes start (see the program sections above). Dental Hygiene applicants must also attend an information session and take the ATI TEAS. Credit classes run at the Temple campus, the Hutto and Taylor centers and online. Workforce courses mostly meet on evenings or Saturdays, with coursework in the D2L online system.
Accreditation and results
Temple College is accredited to award associate degrees by the Commission on Colleges and Universities, the new name of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) since 1 September 2026; the college’s own accreditation page still uses the old name. The college is also approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Education Agency.
The nursing result below comes from the Texas Board of Nursing; the other three are federal figures for the whole college, as Niche reports them.

Respiratory care, sonography, surgical technology, dental hygiene and EMS link their own outcome reports from their program pages; we have not reviewed them, so ask the program for its latest exam and job-placement results.
Before you enroll
- Open admission does not mean a seat in a health program. Nursing, dental hygiene, sonography, respiratory care and paramedic training have their own applications, and deadlines fall months before classes begin.
- Apart from EMT and pre-nursing prerequisites at the Hutto center and the Multi-tech Medical Assistant course listed at Taylor, health programs are taught in Temple, so students in the nursing degree and the other credit health programs travel to the TCHS building on the Temple campus.
- Truck driving (CDL) is not running yet. The college used to rely on outside providers; its own program is planned from fall 2026 at the earliest, so check the CDL page for dates.
- Where you live sets the price: in 2024-25 out-of-district Texans paid $210 a credit hour against $125 in-district, and the college has not posted 2026-27 rates.
- Some degrees are transfer pathways rather than job credentials, including the AS in Engineering Technology, the AS in Pre-Nursing and the AA in Music. The college’s federal graduation rate, as shown by Niche, is 38%.

The college’s mailing address, 130 E. Marvin R. Felder Drive in Temple, is not a teaching site. The Rockdale College and Career Academy and the Texas Bioscience Institute are dual-credit programs for high-school students, not campuses open to adult applicants.

On Niche, Temple College is rated 3.9 out of 5 from 420 reviews, with an overall grade of B− (checked 10 October 2026). Reviewers most often praise approachable, supportive professors, low cost, and flexible scheduling in a friendly community, and some mention recent facility improvements. The most common complaints are limited course offerings and advising, inconsistent communication from some departments, and a quiet social scene with limited housing, and facilities that could be upgraded. The reviews cover the whole college rather than one site or program.
