Kentucky licence-renewal courses, not a trade school
TRADETECH (listed as Trade Tech in our directory) is a small online business, set up in 2015, that sells continuing-education (CE) courses to people who already hold a Kentucky HVAC, plumbing or electrical licence. Kentucky makes these licence holders complete approved CE hours every year to renew, and TRADETECH’s 2-hour courses are built to cover that requirement from home. It also sells online practice tests for the Kentucky HVAC, plumbing and electrical licence exams and for EPA Section 608.

26 two-hour courses and seven practice exams
Every course on TRADETECH’s course list is worth 2 CEU hours and costs $20 (checked October 2026). The courses fall into four groups:

Each course is self-paced and split into five 20-minute sections that mix videos, slide presentations and online discussions. Students have six months from payment to finish, then download a completion certificate from their account to use for renewal, as the FAQ explains. Instructors are not named on the site.
The practice exams cost $100 each: Kentucky HVAC Journeyman, HVAC Master, Master Plumber, Journeyman Plumber and Master Electrician, and two versions of EPA Section 608. They are untimed online tests, proctored over Zoom with camera, microphone and full screen sharing, and give a PDF score report with code references for missed answers. They are practice only and do not award a licence, an EPA 608 certification or CE hours.
About $60 a year for a Kentucky renewal
Under Kentucky’s CE rule, 815 KAR 2:010, master and journeyman HVAC and plumbing licences, electrical contractors, master electricians and electricians each need 6 hours of approved CE in the 12 months before their annual renewal, and no more than 2 of those hours may be safety subjects. Electrical contractors may count only business or job-safety subjects; master electricians and electricians need safety, code or trade subjects. At $20 per 2-hour course, a typical renewal takes three courses and costs about $60.
We found no other fees and no refund policy on its site. Payment is taken online through Intuit Payments, and the company asks buyers to get in touch for other payment methods. There is no federal student aid, and no GI Bill or VA approval is mentioned.
State approval, no accreditation claimed, no outcome figures
TRADETECH is an approved CE provider with the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (DHBC). Its course pages, such as Workplace Conflict Resolution, show provider number PLBCEP-0031 for plumbing and HVACCEP-0091 for HVAC.
The company also appears on the DHBC’s list of online CE providers (checked October 2026). It claims no institutional accreditation, and it is not on the Kentucky Commission on Proprietary Education’s list of licensed schools for July 2025 to June 2026; its approval comes from DHBC as a CE provider.
TRADETECH publishes no completion or pass-rate figures.
Before you buy a course
- The code courses still use the 2015 International Mechanical Code and the 2017 National Electrical Code. Confirm with DHBC that a course on an older code edition still counts for your licence before you pay.
- The course pages show provider numbers for plumbing and HVAC only. If you hold an electrical licence, check that the course you choose is approved for it.
- Only 2 safety hours count each year, so a full renewal cannot be made up of safety courses alone.
- The practice exams need a working camera, microphone and screen sharing on Zoom, and passing one does not count toward a licence or EPA 608 card.
Signing up
Anyone can register an account online, pay and start; there are no start dates, entrance tests or other prerequisites. Its Forms page links Kentucky licence applications, the renewal form and the exam bulletin, which is the only career-related help we found.
