Kentucky licenses electricians (8,000 hours of experience plus an exam) and HVAC journeymen separately from the apprenticeship certificate.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College
The Newtown campus on Newtown Pike is BCTC’s main campus and home to most of its business, computing and transfer programs: the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science, Business Administration, Computer and Information Technologies, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice, Graphic Design and Library Technology, Architectural Technology, Biotechnology, Human and Social Services, early childhood education and real estate, plus Associate in Fine Arts degrees in theatre and filmmaking. Dental Hygiene and Cosmetology are taught nearby at Newtown North, 690 Newtown Pike, where Building 30 holds the public dental hygiene clinic, a student salon and the Testing Center; Fayette County Adult Education is also based at Newtown North.
Leestown, on Opportunity Way in Lexington, is BCTC’s health and trades campus. It teaches the associate degree in nursing, practical nursing, nurse aide and medication aide courses, the CAAHEP-accredited medical assisting diploma, radiography in the M Building, respiratory care, surgical technology, EMT and the paramedic lab day. Trade programs here include automotive (ASE-accredited), air conditioning, construction, electrical, welding and drafting, and the four-week CDL course trains drivers from this campus. Medical Information Technology and Orthotics and Prosthetics Technology are also based here.

Building Industry Association of Central Kentucky
Building Institute Kentucky serves the Central Kentucky region through trade certification programs designed to meet licensing requirements for Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical. Programs last one year for Plumbing and HVAC and two years for Electrical, all with at least 288 instructional hours plus daily job-site experience. Students earn income working during the day and attend evening training from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with entry dates in September and January. Enrollment continues to scale with workforce demand, moving from about 45 completers in 2022–2023 to over 60 in 2024, and total participation approaching 100 students. Tuition is set at $12,000 for Electrical and $8,000 for HVAC or Plumbing, and tuition includes books, safety gear, equipment, and certification costs.

College for Technical Education
The main campus, on Centre Parkway, teaches the Building Trades Technician certificate in day and evening classes and the on-campus part of the hybrid Medical Assistant certificate, including its evening classes. A renovation completed in August 2021 added a medical suite. Students in the online Business Operations certificate come here for competency days, and the flight-training program holds its ground classes here. Childcare is available. Cosmetology, esthetics and nail programs are not taught in Lexington; they run at the Winchester and Nicholasville campuses.

Kentucky Community & Technical College System
Bluegrass Community and Technical College gives 500 Newtown Pike as its address. It teaches equine studies at its Thoroughbred Training Center and is one of two teaching dental hygiene; it also teaches orthotics and prosthetics, sonography, architectural technology, cybersecurity and an additive technology program approved in 2025. The college calls its nursing program Central Kentucky’s largest. First-time NCLEX-RN pass rates in 2025 were 77.2% at Lexington, 86.3% at Lawrenceburg and 80.6% at Winchester; practical nursing passed 19 of 19 at Danville and 12 of 14 at Lexington.

Louisville Electrical JATC
The Lexington training center on Buck Place, which the JATC calls its Central Kentucky Campus, opened in 2015 and is about 10,000 sq ft, according to the sponsor’s About page. It shares its address with IBEW Local 369’s Lexington hall. Apprentice classes meet here on the same every-other-week day schedule as in Louisville; the 2023 graduating class included a Lexington class group.

Paul Mitchell Schools
Paul Mitchell The School Lexington, on Boston Road, teaches 1,500-hour cosmetology and a 750-hour instructor program. It does not list esthetics, which in Kentucky is taught at the Louisville school. It is operated by PMKY Lexington LLC.

Sullivan University
The Lexington campus on Harrodsburg Road teaches the ASN, including a PN-to-ASN route, Radiologic Technology, Culinary Arts, and business and IT programs. The Professional Baker diploma here is not accepting new students (September 2026). The Lexington ASN ran on a conditional state license, extended in January 2024 to January 2026, pending full Kentucky Board of Nursing approval. Apartments at Beaumont Farms cost $2,395 a quarter from summer 2025, for residents under 24 who pass a background check.

The Medical Institute of Kentucky
Lexington is the only Medical Institute of Kentucky location on the state’s 2025-26 license list and was the main campus in the 2020 catalog. Kentucky’s October 2024 KEES list approved three programs here: Clinical Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, and Medical Billing and Coding. The school’s website gives this Old Rosebud Road address, but the BBB now lists the business at 2173 Christian Rd, Ste 150, Lexington, so ask which building classes meet in. Campus status should be confirmed with the school before enrolling.

Trade Tech
Established in 2015, Trade Tech specializes in State Mandated Continuing Education Hours in Kentucky, providing courses for trades like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. The school offers flexible online classes that incorporate videos, PowerPoints, and instructor-led discussions, enabling students to earn CEUs from home and on their own schedule. Tuition is affordable, with most courses costing $20 for 2 CEU hours, though some specialized courses are priced higher.
